I am inclined to have them bring the movement up to perfect working order and leave the rest alone or replace hands with identical versions and send me back the originals.

You'll need to post before and after pics!

Some manufacturers will not give you back original parts if they replace them, for fear of fueling the counterfeit market. Hopefully Omega is more lenient.

Though, I wonder if new hands will look dissonant. They will be perfectly new, without any patina. Usually when in need of replacement hands, collectors seek OEM ones in a condition similar to the dial's.

If it were me, other than fixing and servicing the movement, I'd just ask them to give the whole watch a good cleaning. That will do wonders.

In the past, Omega gave me back parts, those were from the movement. I get you on the hands. Not sure how it will look. The dial is pretty clean other than the yellowed and flaking lume, so it won't be that dissonant. But I will most likely just do a good service and cleaning. The watch looks pretty good as is. I know I have posted some pics before, but none are especially good.

Blah blah blah

Now help me pick a watch. Cartier Tank LC Extra Flat or Panerai 372?

I need to see the dial on the Cartier you are looking at. I bet it looks better than in your photo.
I don't get Panerais at all. Zero appeal to me.

Dopey - I would just have them do a full service on the movement, with a light cleaning that will not affect patina. That's it.

More pics:

The dial has a very, very subtle pearly, parchment tinted sheen.

^ I'd go with the Cartier myself, Foo. I'm quite partial to watches of that shape, and I love the dial of that version you highlight, too.

It is a very nice watch. I have a feeling I am likely to love it more in person than in a photo. In all the photos, the dial seems very flat and lifeless, but I thought it was grained silver. I like Cartiers I think I prefer the slightly more rectangular versions like the Americaine or even the older cintree. But, really, once we are talking about a two hand tank (yay!) in gold, which one depends on what seems to fit better. And I don't know anything about the various movements, but I would greatly prefer square, AEBE.

Thanks, my friend! I know we have a little different tastes and that you're not a big fan of what's coming, but I really appreciate your insight and support (enabling) along the way! It's gonna be a looooong 2 weeks! LOL

Totally apples and oranges here. If you're only getting one, then hands down the Cartier. It's freaking gorgeous and probably a lot more versatile for you than the PAM. As I said before, just get both, especially at the prices you are getting. A year ago I was debating a Royal Oak and a Big Pilot, and it was just a matter or weeks after I got the RO that I ended up just getting the BP too. Buying one of those is not going to scratch the itch you have for the other!
