Yeah.  My beloved, by coincidence, has just sent me this link, with the comment "very pretty"...I'm wondering if she should marry Frilly.

Thanks for these very helpful suggestions. The Stowa also interested me, and that's how I started thinking about the Nomos, which is very similar in style but from what I've read perhaps a bit better in quality. I do like it. The Sinn Classics are nice, but the 36 may be a bit small and the 42-44s are too big -- and not as interesting as the Nomos, I think, though just as clean looking. Appreciate the tip about the size of the lugs on the Nomos watches, as I was wondering about that. I have to find someplace to try one on, which hasn't been easy.

Do you (or anyone here) know anything about the quality of those two offbeat used Tourneau watches I mentioned? I found out that they listed for $5K when they came out 12 or so years ago. Even with the hike in gold prices, $4K sounds high to me for a used watch, unless the movement is something really special.

Thanks for the suggestions. Have a really hard time with the black face watches, as much as I like the look in the showroom. Probably the gray hair problem affecting my night vision ... can't seem to persuade my optometrist that my eyes are getting older they're getting better.

Krish, that Rolex that Belli offered is a great option, so is the Nomos. Id also consider a pre-owned Sub.

NS - Damn. Just. Damn.

Beautiful Stowa!

If I can ask, how much does the customs charged you? Or there wasn't a customs hit?

All logic is thrown out here in TWAT.  Frilly went from no dive watches to 5 in 2014.

Could I get a preowned Sub for that price range? Everywhere I looked online, I was looking at somewhere between $6000-7500 for a preowned (ceramic) black Submariner date (116610LN). I really like the black Submariner, and have that on my list of watches to get after med school, along with a RG JLC Master Control, and the white/blue IWC Port (and a Rose Gold Calatrava and a Rose Gold/black face Daytona as grails). But if I could get the Sub for closer to my price range, fuck yeah I would over the Seamaster every day of the week!

Just checked the receipt and there was a $39 FedEx fee. I can't remember if I had to pay anything extra but I don't think I did.

As long as you are ok with a little bit of an older date, you can find them in the 3-4k range. My brother just got one, and I love it. Kinda jelly really.

I did consider the Daytona on a strap, but it didn't quite resonate with me. Something about the "strap and endlinks"-thing ...

:inlove: Definitely, my favorite round JLC!  What a beauty!.

As for Daytonas, yes I didn't like the endlinks on the strap model I had.  If you buy a bracelet Daytona you can always put it on a strap, but if you buy a strap Daytona with those odd integrated end links you can't add a bracelet at a later date.

Congrats to the Mrs. Culverwood!    Pre-owned ladies watches can be a great value, especially jewelry models.

Ladies watches have never reached the same level of collectibility as mens watches have.  Not as many women collect watches.  In addition, they often prefer traditional jewelry to watches, so the market for pre-owned ladies pieces isn't very strong.

IMHO, nix the Tourneau brand watches, unless you truly love them.  Tourneau branded watches were never anything significant in terms of quality or their movements.  Their original MSRPs didn't mean very much.  Most times those got marked down.  The pricing at best is because they are gold, but again.. for that kind of money you can buy a much better watch from brands others have mentioned, or Omega, Breitling, or Rolex if it doesn't have to be German.  Good luck.

I paid about 10% in tax and duties on my Stowa.

If I recall Stowa offers a risk free transport option that covers all tax and duties but it would have cost more.
