NS - congrats on making a good decision. Moving pieces that no longer move you is something I wish I had the balls to do sometimes.

But.. but.. she's just so pretty smile.gif

Seriously - I hear the criticism about the 5001-07 and admit it's not for everyone, but it's been perfect for me.

Hate to hear about the Heuers though!

a (final?) goodbye from mine to yours. I'm sure your Port will bring its new owner a lot of joy

It really is such a pretty watch. It really fits your watch preferences though rn! You wear bigger watches well.

Love it!  Steel or Platinum?

It's beautiful, isn't it?  For reference, as far as I recall, the platinum version doesn't have blued hands and therefore it's easy to see the difference. This also means that this steel one is actually better because blued hands rock, by the arbitrary rules of my current whim.  So...great watch Nikola, yay!

NS, sorry to see that beauty go. But you do have a lot of uber-pimp awesomeness to ease its passing.

Nuke, I have to admit I didn't get your joke.  There.  I said it.  But I bet I'm not the only one, so it's a service to TWATkind that I offer myself up for derision. :)

Sorry about the poor camera phone photo

I think the case has gotten a larger footprint overall in the past several years although I did try on the Ultra Thin at a boutique about a year ago. Anyway… more and better pix Culver… let's see the new piece!

Tried on the Grande Taille and the Ultra Thin at Mappin & Webb Regent St yesterday. Going to put the Lange Dualtime on hold and get the UT in steel VAT free at the M&W store at LHR T5 tomorrow.

I was at T5 yesterday, and they had a UT, a GT and a black 1931 in stock, so you'll be able to be sure ("Watches of Switzerland", which I guess is owned by Mappin & Webb?).

Different store I think. I've been in touch with the M&W store but good to hear there's another option.

ETA - I found the Grand Taille too thick for my tastes, and surprisingly I found the face to be a bit cluttered compared to the simplicity of the UT (which on paper I thought might be a bit plain). Also the Reverso Classique is tiny!

My mistake, I'm mixing up 4 & 5...

Ah, OK. Have always thought it's a bit off there isn't more choice at T5 considering it's the flagship terminal.

On paper, it's great. All the specs are there, it has that awesome Pellaton movement, dial is well-balanced and very legible, etc.....and just in terms of IWC overall, as a brand-- I really do like them.

Photos of this piece can be quite attractive....yours very much included, NS. And I have rarely (if ever) heard any bad reviews or ownership impressions.

But whenever I would try one on, I just didn't get that "smile back"-- and ultimately, I guess that's all that matters.

Godspeed, Portuguese, godspeed....

Not much you can fault the Port on, and it did smile to me. But the competition is tough, I have a couple of boxes full of smiling watches wink.gif I guess it comes down to nothing but personal preference. This too ... I won't hesitate to recommend a 5001 to anyone, it's a wonderful watch.

Thanks! Glad you are enjoying yours!

Regarding the Heuers: I used to have three Autavias, after the culling I will have one. I'll pull through nod[1].gif It this case, it's a matter of selling the Autavia bringing in the most dough. Siffert prices are way up, and I enjoy my "no Siffert" manual cal 72 Autavia just as much smile.gif (Also, to be truthful, a date without a quickset is a bit of a hassle when rotating watches ...)

Lovely pic NS!

Yeah, Nuke, I dunno.  My NYC ADs and grey market dealers vehemently insist that no SD4000's have hit the NYC market just yet.  But they might just be uninformed. :nodding:
