Arguably, yes. For wanting this, no.  It's beautiful.

Sweet cheezus, this all makes sense, free cheese with your cheesy watches!!

Merry Christmas everyone!!!

It really is, and one of the reasons why I wanted this particular model. Travel schedule makes the dual time a highly useful complication, but I have zero patience for things that are difficult to learn and/or use.

I actually really wanted the revised version - if I preferred the original I could have saved a pretty penny!

Good answer.

I wasn't able to find the original MSRP, but Tiff watches take a hard hit on the secondary market ime. We bought this for a song.

As always I knew we could count on you for a lovely holiday photo.

Merry Christmas to Frills and all of our Christian TWAT Bros.

Oh...my bad, I didn't look closely enough.  I like yours and I like the original.  The one I didn't care for is this one http://cdn.watchuwant.com/sites/default/files/jlc-master-control-world-geographic-refq1528420-ss-silver-dial-21976_7193.jpg

You made a great choice, really functional, easy to use and beautiful.

So Ben (~B~) was nice enough to ship my watches early to me in hopes of having them for the TWAT meet up in NYC. I told him I would post some pictures here for everyone, and I know he'd love to hear feedback (both positive and negative) from the members here. Sorry for the poor quality, I didn't have time to set up lighting or do much editing as I was running late for my own birthday party. I put all but one picture in spoilers so as to not bore those who aren't interested. I loaded them as small pictures, so please click to enlarge.

I hope everyone has a great holiday.

Looks very nice! What a nice early Christmas present. Wish I had a chance to see it at the meet-up last week.

Just got back from New York the other day. Trying to catch up on sleep!

Merry Christmas to all my TWAT brothers. And to the lovely Miss Upton, if you happen to be watching from up above, Merry Christmas to you as well.

Hopefully there will be some watch damage posted tomorrow.

Also, Hroi, lovely JLC. I have always been a fan of the winking robot smile.gif. And JLC really streamlines the complication, which is very attractive in a watch with so many features!

Then maybe you can get it for a "klezmer"? It really is extremely attractive.  How big is it?  Is the power reserve hand blued?  I like it more every time I look at it.

They made a deal with the Swatch group to try and get serious about watches. and massive shenanigans ensued leading to them having to pay out ~$500M.

From what I have read, Swatch didn't want them to compete with their house brands and also went far afield in styling, Tiffany hid them in the back since they were kind of ugly. The interesting comparison is with Ralph Lauren who came in far too high end with a similar deal.

interesting. they have had all kinds of watch goings on over the years. have any been particularly successful?

also, how is the RL watch line doing, have they had much success and do they plan on continuing?

DL - those are really pretty. i particularly like the lugs.

Congrats and Merry Christmas DL.  Glad to hear you are pleased with the results.  I look forward to reading some ownership impressions once you've had some time to wear it and see how it you feel about in a few weeks/months.

I didn't know they had a deal with Swatch...but I remember these Tiffany pieces not really being successful.  The RL ones are kind of a joke, one of my former SAs at RL was always trying to sell me on them.

As mentioned one of my old SAs at RL was trying to sell me on them as he know's I collect watches.  The movements are nice (IIRC, they are from JLC), but the styles aren't all that attractive, and for the prices they are asking I could simply buy a JLC or some other very nice brand.  I find the RL watches attempt to look retro, but come off as overly stylized and lacking elegance.  Its sort of like they want their watches to look "Old money," or like they have pedigree, but they don't.  I'm not really sure who they thought their target audience was.  I think they would have done better if they had gone for a more minimalist modern design, rather that trying to look retro.  I think in their price range, real collectors will probably stick with more established brands.

I actually think the RL watches are pretty good looking overall, but about double what they could reasonably charge given the lack of pedigree. As you point out, at $10K, you can get a watch with real horologic history and it just comes off as arrogant that RL thinks they can command those prices. Tiffany, on the other hand, with a strong push, I could see doing well in watches, but their deal with Swatch must have been total crap.
