And Rolex... well, I just don't get it. At least their current models. I do agree with you on the new DJII though. Rolex's new models seem to traverse the line between tool and dress. I think that are better at doing one or the other. For what it is worth, I have developed something of a hankering for vintage Rollies. The 1016 Explorer, to be exact. That seems like a dangerous path to traverse, however.

1016 :satisfied:

just checking in. lots of great watches the past few pages guys. i almost cried when i read the below post.

^ thanks, i no longer have it, sadly- took it in a trade but ended up feeling it was just too dressy for my day to day streetwear. it's a stunning watch, i would certainly recommend it if you want a moonphase.

^ Yup. The best Explorer, IMO. The painted face is great.

Not my pic, just quickly googled

Are these hard/expensive to come by in a good condition?

whoa...I definitely did not say cheap. I've been looking for a vintage one to be honest, however, have seen the Bell & Ross and liked the look of it. I posted to see how it stacked up against the cheaper Sinn because I knew that most here would consider more than just looks. Seems like most think Sinn is the better buy. If I were to go cheaper, just to get the look I would seriously consider Steinhart as well.

probably the best overview i found:

Good link thanks. There was also one awhile back posted by Foo that explained quite a bit. I didn't think of these as Fliegers, more likely a brand of military inspired watches not necessarily pilots. It's clear to me now there isn't much of a difference.

Thanks. Price seems high to me; for some reason I expected these to be cheaper than a 5513, but from a quick search on that site it seems those are available for less than 5k.

It depends on the year. If you want to get one in the early 60s, with a gilt dial, and in great condition, you are going to have to pay a bit more. Like any vintage rollie, you are paying for patina and condition ha. There are some in the 5k range that I liked, but I just don't think I can justify dropping that kind of cash on vintage at this point, for something that I would consider a "fun" watch.

Panomatic reserve for me, the white/ silver one. /search
Well that was easy

Bear in mind though, the previous pics I posted show the watch you like in a slightly dull light.

Check this out from Purist Pro. Looks like the dial isn't a flat pure white but creamier off-white and the blue hands really stand out

source (for some really nice big pictures)
