Amazing story.  Thanks for sharing.  I'm a fan of capybara leather.  Picked up some gloves and shoes(driving) in BA.  Great fishing as well.  Nice Malbecs.  Wonderful people.  Brings back wonderful memories...

Vintage LeCoultre

I know next to nothing about vintage watches but was looking for nice gold dress watch so picked this up. Could use a good servicing - anyone know of someplace in NYC?

I've heard good things about a place in Grand Central Station but I cannot speak from experience

That Le Coultre looks fishy.  Are you certain of the source?

Do you mind sharing what may look fishy about it?

I purchased it off the bay, admittedly not the best idea for a vintage watch. But it was from a seller with a lot of positive feedback

I'm certainly no expert.  The hands look different than most Le Coultre.  Have you seen an open case back?  Best to have it looked at by someone who you trust in the watch bus.  I may be completely wrong.  I'm not a huge fan of watches on fleabay.

The Vacheron connection is interesting.  I did not know this.  Vacheron made hands like yours, in fact I have one.  You most likely have the genuine article, but have a watchmaker give you the facts.

I don't know enough, but it looks normal enough to me.

THE person to consult is Mr. Zaf Basha of Washington, D.C. He's the man to talk to bout vintage JLC. Email him a pic and I'm sure he could tell you all about the watch.
