Is this the one you recommended? And at this price? Just wondering if I got your pointer correctly.

Are these "recommended" investments? ... based on some reading that talked about buying more reliable higher priced brands/ models with leather sole and stitching and they would LAST longer and be better LONGER TERM investments (less $/ year of Classic Style) that wont go out of trend.

yes, you got both of them right, and they both has US stores which you can try on.

have a read of the 1st post in this thread if you haven't, I wouldn't call any shoe an investment personally, it's more about buying what fits you within a reasonable budget that you have set yourself.

If you can wait a while, the Park Avenue gets down to around $220 during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale.  Sadly, you just missed it, as the sale is in August.  But, it comes every year, and the PA seems to be a staple sale item.  However, if you go with Allen Edmonds factory seconds through their outlets, you can get a pair of PA's for this price fairly easily if you watch sales.

Thank you Sir MWS. I think with your guidance it will be MoneyWellSpent :) . I'll ping/ PM you sometime for further guidance as I keep a watch out.

PS: Do they have an online mailing list to signup on for the Outlet sales? What other lists should I sign up for to track and hunt this one down at 220?

They do have a mailing list, though I personally don't put much stock in it.  It's pretty hit or miss for me on when I get them and they aren't very comprehensive.  It's probably worth emailing one of the outlets (find the one closest to you on the AE website store locator, or email the shoe bank (shoebank@allenedmonds.com) and request to be added just in case, but you will have much more success by following the Allen Edmonds Appreciation Thread here on Style Forum.  People are great about announcing when sales pop up.

...what a great thread. The comparison shots will be a big help to all shoe nerds on the lookout for their very own black oxfords.

One point of interest that's overlooked at all times is the welt. Black oxfords are legion, so a natural welt or white welt stitching are a handy way to make a pair pop. Don't take my word for it: have a go with fine sandpaper on the welt to remove edge dressing and see the result.

There's also a good chance that the PA will be on sale during Nordstrom's half yearly for around $229 if you want to wait. I believe that's in December right after Christmas.

Thanks mate, a black shoe with a contrast welt would make a decent casual fashion shoe.

Gyasih, thank you for posting it here! A beautiful representation of a more Central European style with heel counters. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

^^Those look really sleek! :fonz: When you get the chance, could you post some fit pics also? I'm curious as to how the sleekness translates when the shoes are worn.
