Yep, they're all pretty expensive and not too compelling for those who don't have spare cash to burn.

I don't see this taking off until 2-3 years from now.

In other news, Apple event confirmed for Sept 9th! icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

It's the most wonderful time of the year.

I was working on a Google Sheet on my iPhone 5 yesterday and when you turn it to landscape and click on a cell the keyboard takes up the whole screen. There's no way that wasn't deliberate.

Pretty much exactly what the new iPhone is supposed to look like. It's very sleek and I like it overall.

The one aspect I can't fucking stand are the antenna bands on the back. Disgusting.

I bought a gold 5s after having a black iphone since 2008. Think I'll go back to black / space grey this time around.

The 4.7" screen isn't really my thing. I'm afraid it's going to feel huge going from an iPhone 4 to an iPhone 6. Hopefully I'll get used to it, but still -- 4.7" seems really impractical in terms of having enough room for the phone in a pocket.

100% agree. Protruding camera (if true) also seems very un-Apple to me. I wish they'd made it a little thicker and used the space for more battery.

I think the camera will make for some slick cases.

How so?

I think the camera is a non-issue for people using cases, as any case will certainly be at least as thick as the lens protrudes. But if you're not using a case, my concern would be the lens getting scratched, since that's what the phone will be resting on any time you put it down.

I'm all for camera improvements, though. Looking forward to what they have in store in that department.

I just read a comment by a user on macrumors saying that he wouldn't trade 20 grams of weight for 20% more battery life. That blows my mind. 20 grams is 0.7 ounces. I'd make that tradeoff all day long.

I realize I'm not in the majority regarding my screen size and battery preferences, but it'd be nice to continue to have a 4" option. If the 4.7" version has the same or worse battery than the 5/5s, that'll be double disappointing for me.

I don't know if worrying about the lens getting scratched is much of an issue. Sapphire is stupid hard to scratch. People will probably be annoyed by the phone being all tilted when laying down.

I use both the Iphone 4 and the HTC One (which is about the same size as the iphone 6) and while there is no pocket difference, there is a huge difference in handling with the HTC One often requiring two handed operation.

Whatever the 6 ends up being, I'm looking forward to the upgrade. Hopeful that it's going to be a nice step up from the existing hardware.

A 4.7" display is really not big at all. I have tiny elf hands and can operate my Moto X one-handed just fine.

Pretty excited for the Apple event. There's enough smoke around the larger iPhones that there's got to be fire. Most exciting is the potential new product category, which we haven't seen for 4 years. It feels like the "iWatch" thing is really happening this time.

I wear a Nike Fuel band and would welcome a better, Apple-designed fitness device. I gotta think, though, that this watch will be more than that. I'm not sure I want a watch that does much more than that—but I trust that Apple is more imaginative than I am and has probably dreamed up something that I will want as soon as I see it.

A couple of interesting random bits:

  • Apparently quite a few fashion-industry people have been invited to the event.
  • Apple just hired Jony Ive's best designer-buddy Marc Newsom, who's done a wide range of cool stuff.

I don't like this iWatch business at all. I'll stick with my automatic watches for the rest of my life.

I'm torn. I like the smaller size for working out, and maximum portability is at the top of my priority list. At the same time, though, my iPhone is my favorite computer, and even when I'm at home with MacBook and iPad at arm's length, I still find myself playing on my iPhone—in that circumstance, I'd welcome the added screen real estate.

I'm eligible for a phone upgrade in 5 months. I think I can wait that long.
