Wow... And to think you coulda bought the extended warranty.

i was actually able to negotiate things (and be stubborn) so the cost to fix turns out to be less than the cost of Apple Care.

Good work that, well done.

Details?

I've been given free repairs from Apple out of warranty. They once swapped out a dead MacBook battery I had and didn't charge me cent. My understanding is the employees are given a certain amount of of discretion on repairs in any given month to keep customers happy. It's rare, but you might have lucked out in this case.

Any fixes?
Same thing happened to me and my IT guy, who is a magician, said that the update can not be removed. I'm drifting away from Apple. Got an HTC One and love it.

What's the length of the manu warranty? I'm assuming the 5S is still covered.

And up to three years, with Apple Care Plus+.

anybody who can help will be God for the day.

i'm trying to clean up my computer (latest OSX version) and having a few issues.

1. I use aperture/iphoto for pictures and cleaned out their trash. aperture library is somehow 56 GB and iPhoto is 18. "About This Mac" says I have 96GB of photos. There is no way I have that much and I can't figure out where they'd be and how to get it sorted. Pictures folder just shows the libraries.

2. Similar situation with music. iTunes shows 684GB and ATM shows 751. I have no idea why the hell this is happening since all the music is in iTunes.
