I'm thinking of just getting the 13" rMBP. The performance is just not up to par. Curious how the 1.3 ghz model fares.

Given that I'm only going to be using this at home, the portability factor isn't as useful as I thought it'd be. It's a really freaking tiny computer.

I'll use it for another week or so and decide whether to exchange it for a 13" pro instead.

Got a base model coming in on Monday, don't really need a new laptop but will play around with it for a week and decide whether or not I want to keep.

@GreenFrog Is your OS version up to date? I've read on other forums people getting Macbooks that aren't preloaded with the newest version and experiencing some performance issues but updating resolved it. I'd be surprised if it stutters on a site like SF, I was playing around with one in the Apple store with multiples tabs open (2 youtube 1080p streams, 1 espn video stream) and scrolling through yahoo news without any issues.

Everything is up-to-date; I installed the latest Yosemite update after unboxing it.

Web browsing is pretty good for all the websites I browse, except for SF. It's worse than my 2010 MBA, which is ridiculous. The forum will load within 2-3 seconds because I have pretty fast internet, but I can't click on any links for a good 6-8 seconds. If I hover my cursor over any links, the finger icon indicating a clickable URL doesn't show up during this time. If I do click anyway, it lags for 2-4 seconds and the beach ball spinner pops up.

Very frustrating.

Are you using Chrome? I had that problem on Chrome and it's the reason I switched to Safari.

To be fair...some of that is just the amount of **** crammed on to each page of SF these days.

Nope, I'm using Safari. SF is a real pain to browse on this. I know it's only been a day but man, I'm pretty disappointed. I've been wanting a machine like this for well over a year now and I thought this would be it. Nope. I'm confident the 2nd generation of this will be what I want, but I don't want to wait another ******* year for that.

UGH!!!!!!

There are only two things I really like so far -- the speakers and force touch trackpad, both of which are available on the 13" rMBP. I'm pretty sure I'm going to end up switching to that instead.

Haha. In the past I've had the exact same problems with Safari and went to Chrome.

That is, pages that wouldnt load and just super slow browsing. But that was a couple years ago
Now I use Chrome with my mb air from 2010 and SF seems to load fine

I've spent a bit more time browsing with it this evening. It's loaded SF pages without any delay. Loaded the Star Wars trailer embedded in the thread in E&C without stuttering. I think it's going to be a capable machine for my meager needs.

****. The moment SF loads for you, all the links are clickable? There's no extra delay?

What the hell is up with mine, then? It couldn't possibly be the extra .1 ghz in processing power, could it?

Not much of one. If there is it is so minimal that it doesn't interfere with the browsing experience. And when I just browsed through several pages to check it I've got 6 Safari tabs open and Outlook is downloading 17,000 emails. Not the heaviest use by any means, but a reflection of my typical use.

Not sure what the difference is. Maybe the very subtle delay that I wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't gone looking for it is not so subtle to you.

I'm running a Hackintosh Power Mac equivalent on my desktop and have about twenty Chrome tabs open at any one time without any problems. I have about ten on my surface pro 3 chrome. I know the SF pages are a bit busy but surely a new computer should be able to handle that?

I figured out what was sandbagging my performance on SF -- my AdBlock Plus extension. I uninstalled it and everything loads significantly faster now. It doesn't affect my performance on my MBA, so that it does on this is still a bummer, but at least it's fixed.

Overall, though, SAfari is not as snappy as I'd hoped.

I use Adguard. It doesn't work for video ads which is irritating but it gets rid of banners and the who to follow block on Twitter so I'm fine with it.

ITT:

We tell GF the new macbook is underpowered.
GF orders the new macbook and doesn't shell out for upgraded CPU
GF disappointed with said macbook's underwhelming performance.
