I played around with the Mini at the store for a little bit. Perfect weight and size without being clumsy. A pen would be perfect to help with studying I think. I love getting a deal and something worthwhile, so, still don't know whether I should bite the bullet now and pickup the 4. I might just wait until after September.

So I've noticed that Safari for Sierra when I'm not on my Gmail window the auto-refresh or whatever and chat stop working. Like when I get a new email I see it on my phone but it doesn't pop up on Safari until I tab over to the window and then it refreshes.

I'm pretty disappointed by how Safari has turned out. WebKit was an amazing thing Apple gave developers.

It's largely websites that are not standard complaint and Chrome is often more tolerant of those crummy websites. As is, XHTML and CSS are pretty de-facto. The ancillary stuff that comes with video codecs, the back-end stuff, etc. should be immaterial on a modern browser.

I'm not sure if Apple should come back towards the terrible developers or it should be the other way around. Google has found some semblance of a balance.

We should be well beyond the age old Acid3 browser tests.

That NSO company creeps me out.

In other news re: iOS 10, I'm loving the new keyboard sounds. Very pleasing to the ear and not grating like the old ones.

The phone lock sound effect is weird af though. I don't get it at all.

John Grubber recently brought up a point I agree with. If Apple is removing the headphone jack because wireless is "the future" it would send very mixed messages to still include a wired headset in the box.

Everyone, we believe that moving forward with Bluetooth headsets is the way to go! It's the future! Here have a wired Lighting headset with your phone.

From a messaging and marketing standpoint it just does not work at all. Wireless cannot be their only reasoning unless they include a wireless headset in the box.

He's not wrong. Bluetooth has never even come close to being able to deliver the same sound quality as a wired connection. It's also one of those technologies that keeps promising that the next version will fix all it's flaws, yet never does. I'm honestly not that hopeful towards whatever next version of Bluetooth is slated to be released and have hope that Apple is working on it's own wireless technology that will get it right.

I've come to agree that it's a bit too early to remove the headphone jack, especially in the context of the radically re-designed iPhone 8 coming out next year. It's rumored to have no more home button and be completely redesigned. Why not wait the one more year to remove the headphone jack and release killer bluetooth headphones in the meantime? Consumers will probably find it much more palatable to not have it anymore when the phone itself looks so different and (hopefully) really good.

Now that I think about it, not sure why they would push to remove it this year with the iPhone 7 not being radically different. It just gives consumers another reason to not buy the new phone. Maybe they'll have an awesome trick up their sleeve but I doubt it.

Yeah, I remember when they started making laptops without optical drives it wasn't nearly as big of a thing because flash drives and SD cards were already well established and affordable. With headphones, so many people have expensive and high-quality sets that will last for years there's just no reason to ditch them.

The battery life better be noticeably improved. By removing the headphone jack they will free up a good amount of internal space and they should use that for a larger battery.

Rumors are going around that the 2nd speaker grill will be fake. It will still only have one internal speaker. lol

Yup. Quality headphones get very expensive and adapters always suck.

Bluetooth in a nutshell right there.

I guess if it ships with a lightning adapter then ok, but it's just something else to lose. And what about when I want to charge my phone while listening to headphones?

I don't see why the phone needs to be slimmer. My 6 is already significantly bent

apparently there is word of the adaptor being able to charge and listen. i guess at this point, phone technology has been reduced to such small incremental upgrades that pushing the boundaries on dimensions is something to experiment with. also, while high end phones may be stagnating, it just means the low-mid tier is getting much better.

Yup, still liking my SE smile.gif

Feel like a broken record over the past few years, but battery life is much more needed than continuing to make things thinner and thinner. 7 seems like a real disappointment. Basically a continuation of the 6, the worst looking iPhone design ever. Still too much wasted space around the top and bottom bezels.

Will say that the camera improvements over the recent years have been impressive.

I have to agree with GF, the new emojis suck.
