As I have mentioned before, I have had worse luck with my iPhone 6 then any prior iPhone. Had one's screen crack then eventually die do to water damage. Well my iPhone 6 recently died again. This time was also water damage, but didn't amount to much. A drink spilled on it without me realizing it at first. Phone worked for a little while then crapped out over night.

Being that we are so close to a new model coming out I really didn't want to invest in a replacement right now. Luckily my father had a spare Android phone that he bought for business purposes that he sent me to use for now. It's one of the newer ATT Go phones called the Galaxy Express 3. Seems decent enough for a $79 pre-paid phone. Figure I will just use then then decide on upgrading next month.

The g/f is an apple whore and is bugging me for a new tablet since her "old" iPad (bought in June 2014) stopped working. She had been playing with a Surface 4 that I had for a contract and now wants one. I thought once an apple whore always an apple whore but I guess I was mistaken

I need a new MBP, but I think I'll wait for the Kaby Lake refresh. However those rumored hardware upgrades might twist my arm sufficiently. iPhone 7 is a no brainer for me. Not getting the  Watch 2 is also a no brainer for me.

Why does she want you to buy it for her again? Is she 12 years old?

I believe Apple should remove both the headphone jack and also the charging port.

I don't know if you guys know that Twitter account but it is excellent. His most famous incident was when Nassim Taleb thought he was actually Jeff Jarvis: http://www.slate.com/blogs/weigel/2014/08/12/watch_nassim_taleb_debate_twitter_s_greatest_tech_jargon_parody_account.html

My God. I had forgot what it's like to have a phone loaded with a bunch of carrier bloatware. I've got all these carrier and Samsung apps I cannot delete and won't stay "off" when I close them. I've never had to root a device before but the research I have done so far seems to indicate that it's not possible with this handset. Shit blows.

What's with all these new plans? I'm clinging on to my ~$70 after taxes unlimited data, 450 anytime, unlimited cell-to-cell, Wi-FI and weekends with rollover with the AT&T. Am I in the wrong for a medium user? I've never come close to hitting the limit since my first cell phone in 1999.

It's clever new up-sell tactic after another - but I'm also not getting fancy stuff like T-Mobiles new lineup with tethering.

Read about these new plans then think about this. Remember when the carriers started dropping "unlimited" and went to tier plans? At the start they priced the tiers low enough that a lot of people were ok with it. So the public didn't bitch about it and they costed. Eventually they started to raise prices. Slowly and surly turning the tier plans into the joke they are today.

I could see that happening here. Get people used to having the carriers intervene between you and the open content on the internet. Making more and more backroom deals with companies like YouTube. Doing so with "good" pricing at first to get everyone to turn a blind eye to them breaking net neutrality and doing the very things that proponents of net neutrality have been warning about for years. Then slowly raising prices, adding more restrictions, adding more up-charges for content you used to get for "free." It's a bad slippery slope.

Thank god I switched to t-mobiles unlimited plan in early 2014 when they were dropping sick ass deals.

I'm grandfathered in for unlimited everything at $60 a month.

None of that 480p bullshit. All HD. I use 20-30 gigs a month.

☺️

I dunno. The Verizon month to month plan works for me and my family and ends up being cheaper for all of us to be on the same account.
