So is the news that the FBI have found a way to unlock the iPhone good or bad? I'm thinking the latter.

They likely always had a way. This was about public opinion and setting a precedent. I generally dislike slippery slope arguments but it seems at play here. The FBI's ultimate goal is the "back door" to the encryption Apple uses on newer and future phones.

Thought about this new 4 inch iPhone and believe it's a good move. I'm still surprised they left out 3D touch, but it shouldn't be a big deal. What surprised me even more is how much it ended up looking like the 5/5S. With all the rumors I was expecting something of a hybrid look between the 5 and 6. When they showed the SE on stage I thought it was an older 5S at first.

If they added 3D Touch I think a lot of people who otherwise would have went for the higher margin 6s' would go for the SE instead. I would have, for example.

Purely a business move for shareholders.

On that note, I'm trying to mentally prepare myself for the possibility of getting the 7 Plus Pro (lol) if it really does exist with the dual camera setup. Maybe the bigger phones really are the future.

These things look really cool. The basically stole the idea from Tile, but did it much better. Little blue-tooth devices you can stick on your keys, bag, pets, etc to find them anywhere within a certain distance. As someone who always manages to misplace my keys at home I am sold.

They have a model for your wallet too, but TBH it looks way to thick to actually use it like that. Maybe in a generation or two they could get it down to the size of a proper credit card and we would be talking. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

EDIT: Selling these for pets and offering inscriptions seems like a brilliant market play too.

was given some for Christmas to put on the dog's collar.

never had to use.

All of the 5/5s holdouts who don't want a bigger phone have no experience with 3D touch and thus don't care if they have it.

That's a giant leap of faith to be making brah.

Bluetooth only has a range of 100 meters, right? Would be useless for a lost pet in most cases.

I was reading about it on the website and it looks like anyone running the hardware and app who is within a certain distance of the device can detect it and send a signal to the owner. It happens automatically. They also sell home nods to create virtual nets that can cover greater distances.

I agree finding a lost dog with it may not be the best use case at the moment, but the type of thinking behind this technology is sound. We just need better low power standards then bluetooth.

Personally I think it's worth $30 not to ever run late to work again because I can't find my keys in the morning.

Meh. I obviously haven't spent a lot of time with 3d touch, but I hardly think it is an essential groundbreaking feature.

People who are still sitting on 5/5s/5c (or even 4s) don't care. If they felt they truly needed 3d touch in their lives, they would have upgraded already. They haven't upgraded because they either care about the money, or they care about the form factor (and their old phones are still functional but might be getting slow).

The new phone is both a cheaper option and fits the old form factor... 64gb and faster performance for less $$ than a laughable 16gb iphone 6? I suspect this thing will sell well.

3D Touch is a cool feature but it won't sell phones. My concern is app adaption and support for the feature. They keep releasing iPads without it and now a new phone? Seems like a bad move to me.

right. since i'm in a city, there's certainly a chance I'm not the only one using one, so it was a solid stocking stuffer to help out in an event that will (pray to god) never happen.

I just discovered that USB tethering is WAY faster than wifi/BT tethering.

wires always are. the one downside to no more ethernet on laptops is can't take advantage of blazing speeds since 99% of wifi routers are garbage

I'm not. smile.gif still got the eight year old white Macbook on the desk here running as a Transmission bittorrent client and media server, it's without the battery now as that was starting to bulge alarmingly! And my recent 2015 Macbook Air, that gets a heck of a lot of use. biggrin.gif
