It's pretty clear based on the features they built with the pencil that it was meant for drawing.

You realize that the keyboard is an option.

Well a first principles approach to that non-sequitur reasoning (as to zee JR's comment) would imply the iPad itself, neigh, life itself is optional. patch[1].gif

Joking aside, I carry my iPad nearly everywhere in a professional setting - even if I have my MacBook. I wouldn't mind the pencil to jot down random thoughts or take notes.

I also don't want to spend iPad Pro prices to get that.

You also wouldn't want to try and hold the iPad Pro one handed for long to jot these notes. It's too big, heavy and awkward to hold like that. That's part of the point of why it would be a good decision to bring Pencil input down the line to the thin and lighter iPads.

The use case here is that an iPad Air or iPad Mini could replace a notepad on the go. An iPad Pro really could not.

...and they call still charge 100 bucks for it. I'd happily buy the pencil.

Fundamentally, the only thing current iPhones and iPads might lack are charging abilities and some other minor screen tweaks to work with the pencil.

I'd gladly pay for the pencil on the iPad Air 3.

Well it will never be on the iPad Air 3. If it comes to the Air and Mini hardware lines then it will be with new hardware yet to be released. The screen technology needed is not currently in either the Air or Mini. Not reason it couldn't be in the future.

Rumor is for an iPad Air 3 this march with 4K. Doubtful it will support the pencil too, or 3D Touch for that matter

We'll see. Digitimes is sketchy and it sorta makes little to no sense scaling wise unless they change the form factor. 3D touch and the pencil are toss up questions. As with every previous non Pro/mini iPad, I'll still suck on Apple's teet for more.

Call me crazy but I just may consider the 7+ if they slim down the top and bottom bezels.

Im really digging the large screen and excellent battery life (been using a 6+ for mobile app testing the past couple of days).
wouldn't call you that, like everyone else here have reservations about the larger iPhone but have the 6s for personal use and a nexus 6p for work and can see why people go for the plus, the extra screen real estate makes using the nexus quite a pleasure to use. like you think I might go for the 7+ once it drops this autumn.

For some reason my computer has decided to stop displaying 1 Arabic letter in Messages. I'm perplexed and angered by it.

Had to buy yet another Lightning cable this weekend. The things never seem to last more then 3 to 5 months. I'm curious if USBC cables will have similar problems since the design is close to what Apple did with Lighting. Would go a long way towards proving if Lightening is in itself flawed or if it's just what you get with a small two sided plug that gets used so much.

Ditch the Apple ones and get the lightning cables from mono price or Amazon. They're certifies for iPhone use and are cheaper and more durable.

Sorry I wasn't clear. I have gone through multiple cables. Apple branded ones and third party. Certified and not. Even the Amazon branded cables. They all wear out over time and my phone won't charge with them anymore.

Hmm, I've had very good luck with my charger cables, both OEM and third party. I have different ones for different scenarios: desk, travel, bed, etc, so maybe that's why they all last longer collectively.

The only apple charging accessory that fails on me quickly and consistently is the MagSafe charger. The fucking cables fray so easily. My current one is a complete mess but it's still functional so I'm continuing to use it.
