So let's say you're stuck using an 8gb iPhone 4S with ~500 battery cycles. Let's say you're not eligible for an upgrade for 3 more months. What would you do?

  1. Do nothing. Limp along with the 4S as long as possible.
  2. Replace battery in 4S for ~$25 so at least it doesn't die as quickly.
  3. Buy used 5S on eBay & sell 4S. Resell 5S when you can upgrade to 6S.
  4. Option 3, but hold out 5-6 months longer for the 7.

Id say option 4. Replacing the battery is fairly easy, but a 4s sucks. At least get a 5/5s/6 to hold you through. Its not that expensive.

Buy the 6s now and then the 7 when it comes out.

Trying to minimize my loss of money. 6s will probably take a bigger price hit than a model that's already outdated.

You can trade in the 4s now for a $100 Apple gift card, use that to buy the 5s/6/6s.

Any idea if you can trade in multiple phones? Because I also have a 4 I can trade.

Might spring for an iPhone 6C if it has the specs of the 6S as rumored but in a 5S-esque casing.

Then I'll upgrade again to the 7 in the fall 🤓

Wondering what the pricing scheme will be on the 6c. I might try to nurse my 4s along until it's released.

I sure hope apple actually does it and finds success... Then maybe the other manufacturers will also make some decent phones in small sizes.

Dunno where else to post this but ATT is now the final carrier to eliminate contracts.

It's amazing the amoubt of change John Legere has brought to the industry as a result of his "fuck you, large carriers" attitude.

I respect the shit out of that man.

I'm curious what this will do to phone sales. I could see myself sticking with the 6 for longer than two years just like I've had my current MBA for 4 years without thinking of getting a new one. With the two year subsidized thing you basically lost out by not upgrading.

Yeah. I'm holding onto my phone right now (although, AT&T did this a while ago...if you were on a modern plan, the contract was offered but no longer viable since it cost you $25 a month extra).

I guess I am still missing out on my employer's subsidy (up to $200 every 2 years...unless HR gets around to updating the policy to match the reality of the world today), but I really like my current phone, and I don't see anything else I would really rather have. Might as well wait to see what comes in the future.

My parents are about to upgrade a 4 and a 4s...so for them at least, this past 15 months or whatever since switching to a modern plan has just been a money savings. I assume that they will also keep their new phones for more than 2 years.

Verizon still sucks. They forced my wife to turn in her old phone to upgrade, which makes no sense to me considering the new pricing model is that you buy your phone separately and pay for it in installments. Wish I was with her to fight it.

My dad just told me about an epic battle he had with them where he added a new line (hotspot) and wanted to cancel his old hotspot line, but the CSRs ABSOLUTELY REFUSED to cancel the old line. Multiple phone calls, store visits, etc. "We can't do that. It will make your bill go up. Etc. Etc. Bullshit bullshit." After getting the run around, them proposing different plans (none of which worked out), finally the store rep comes back, "looks like we'll just have to cancel the old line." Huge-ass waste of time on par with the healthcare system.

Not to mention one (corporate) store told me I could upgrade early if I gave them my old phone in working condition, then the next (corporate) store told me there's no way they can do that. They kept insisting that I didn't go to a corporate store previously, and I am 100% sure I did.

Just FYI, if they don't have to turn them in, they get $100 gift cards for each of those (assuming they're in good condition) through the Apple reuse/recycling program. Much better than you'd get on eBay.
