I;m thinking Kindle since I'm mainly looking for an e-reader, but of the two which is better for basically reading everything from PDF files, novels, textbooks to the newspaper? I want to be able to bookmark and highlight passages. I mention the PDF file because I was actually thinking about reading prospectus when studying/researching where a highlight function may be very helpful (lol).

I'm also in the middle of cleaning out the room and just realize an e-reader may make my life so much easier.

I love reading on my kindle, and the current paperwhite looks 10x better than my older model.

That being said, If you want to read things that aren't books, it will probably be a pain in the ass. I don't have a touchscreen model, so maybe the new ones are a little better, but they are annoying anytime you want to flip back and forth between things (referring to earlier pages, checking footnotes, etc.).

For things like PDFs and reviewing word docs for work, I usually use my Nexus 7. I imagine the ipad tools are fairly similar. I can comment and highlight and all that jazz.

Has anyone made progress on colour e-ink?

Does anyone here have an AirPort Extreme that they connect an Xbox one too as well? I'm a little worried about the two playing nice together. Or an AirPort Extreme that they use as a time capsule as well?

I have an older airport time capsule and never had any issues running the 360 with it. What are you worried about?

Read some reviews that said some of the apple routers didn't work well with some Microsoft products, but I imagine that's been sorted already.

I use an iPad for all my reading. Haven't bought a paper copy of a book in a over two years. Works well for work documents and books, and makes traveling much more convenient.

^Thanks for the anecdotes

I am leaning towards the iPad, the latest iPad Pro is intriguing when I was watching the unveil/demos. But not sure I need such a large screen for reading purposes..All the added features may come in hand.

Anyone get their company to pay for their device/subsidize? We actually have several mobile laptops and the boss also has an iPad albeit I haven't seen it in months. Laptops are so bulky and the power is also low/dead.

Being that it is my own iPad I would probably customize it to fit my needs as well as support presentations with clients. Maybe if they see me use it enough in the office...hehe

I'll have to shop around during the holidays...what's usually a good discount (%) for Apple devices during November and December?

Do the airports ever go on sale for Black Friday?

My org would gladly pay for all my tech, even those I have at home, but I decline, and I'm very high up in my org. I don't want anyone having potential access to my tech and what's on them. It's a personal choice.

You don't normally use a laptop? We all have laptops...standard business line thinkpads (X2-- or T4--) so not ultra-book tiny, but the X models are pretty small and are indestructable workhorses.

Phones are subsidized (although that system needs to be revamped to fit the new phone purchase model...used to be they would pay your $200 every new contract, but that system is mostly dead). I don't think anyone has a tablet purchased for them.

I don't even set my tablet up to access corporate services though. I don't want to deal with the security restrictions and device control that you have to grant when you connect to exchange. As soon as it is joined to the network, it requires password locking, permissions for remote wipe, etc. That's fine with my phone--even better if you have a phone with fingerprint sensing--but I would hate it with my tablet.

Usually there are no issues with documents that I want to review being off the network, so I will just sync them to my tablet with Dropbox...but I could see a need for security restrictions in some situations, and that would kill some of my general entertainment use of the tablet.

And remember, if you have a personal phone that is joined to an employer's exchange server...keep backups of anything important (e.g. photos) to dropbox or cloud sync or something.

Not that you expect to get fired or anything, but some companies have general policies of sending out remote wipe signals when they disable your user accounts. Would suck to lose personal files from your own device without knowing. Get called into a meeting, discover your company is having a round of layoffs, and when you get back to your desk, you are locked out of your PC and your phone has been wiped.

Apple gave me an accessory of my choosing as long as it was within the $20 - $30 range for my recent woes with my 6S. I chose the 2M lightning cable because the monoprice one I have is defective af.

Great customer service!

The local Apple dealer gave me a Magic Mouse, a USB Ethernet adapter and a keyboard cover with a new 13in Macbook Air. Finally decided to retire the old, white 2008 Macbook, Trackpad had given up a while back, battery was starting to bulge, and self-inflating LiPo batteries are never good idea to keep around! ...also starting to find that a lot of never software and updates no longer supports OS X Snow Leopard, 10.6.8.
