Viberg for Styleforummarket Order #2: Suggestions - Page 5

Wow, I really like those oxfords--for some reason wasn't considering that this could be an option as the Viberg oxfords I've seen always looked more like work/safety type shoes (christy soles and all) which I like fine, but not what I would buy at this point. An oxford on a 2030 last with a brogue cap toe in a french calf? Those look amazing. Not sure there are enough others who would go for it though.

Service Boot with 10 eyelets
2045 Last
Black or Red/Brown French Calf (lined)
Partially Structured Toe
cap toe
Single natural midsole
Dainite (maybe a double leather sole)
Vintage Brass Eyelets (maybe)

The boots will be similar to these shell cordovan boots but with a partially structured toe like these of the black hh boots.

BTW is Horween still selling leather to individuals via Tannery Row? Is it possible we order shells and send them to viberg to make boots? A lot of work to do I know...

Fok please do the top boot as pictured (first one) in colour 8.  Viberg is now using colour 8 in CXL.  The top boot would be perfect for both dressy and casual!

Cxl would give a totally different (dull) look. I wouldnt want it for any dressier shoes or boots. It's a casual / work boots only kind of material imo.

I think that it seems that there is a lot of support for a boot in red/brown calfskin - this is an ambitious makeup - I will need to be fully lined in the same leather, which is not cheap,. but one that I think could be a great example of a boot that is at the same time dressy and rugged - The makeups suggested so far remind me of a cavalry officers' boot from before the mechanized age.

I see the dialogue here as one to determine whether we are going to have a "dressier" boot, with 10 eyelets, an a leather sole, or a more casual boot, with a dainite sole and a partially constructed toe.

My inclination is to go for the first make. It just makes a lot of sense, and will showcase what Viberg is capable of. The more casual boot is not bad, but imo, not as unique or interesting,

Your thoughts?

Cheers,

Fok.

I think this absolutely nails it.

So styleforum is going steampunk?

I know that this is in jest, but I've always liked at least that approach. I enjoy heritage stuff, but I find attempts to be historically accurate to be stifling, and I find trying to "modernize" things just as stifling as the rules of propriety that sometimes menswear enthusiast get mired in. I really do prefer a mythologized past that creates and is the creation of a mythologized mindscape.

Agreed, I think this is what clothing is in essence (in affluent society anyway); a fantasy of the Self (Jungian Self) made material.

We've all had the moment where we absolutely, instantly, irrationally fall in love with an object of clothing. What is that reaction if not your unconscious yelling "that is who I want to be!"

Sounds great.

But why does it need to be fully lined?

And any pics of boots in that leather?

And it would be the 2030 last, right? No upturned toe.

It needs to be fully lined because the calf is considerably finer and thinner than the usual leather used by Viberg. So, the construction would have more similarities with fine dress boots, or country boots by the likes of Trickers. Not having a lining would compromise the structural integrity of the boot.

I am hoping to get a swatch so that I can show the color. Or Guy might give some photos

The last would be 2030 or maybe 2040, which has a similar shape, but is more compromising. No upturned toe, that makeup. I just see that as overkill in the one direction. I'm open to an upturned toe makeup, and there are been a scattering of people saying they'd be interested, but I haven't seen that groundswell of support to be confident in offering something like that. Maybe if we got half a dozen people committed to that, then we'd put an upturned boot on the site. I think that the interest in that is more in Japan, and to a lesser extent, in Europe, and our presence in those markets is just not strong enough, yet.

I see. Thanks for your reply.

I think the upturned toe can look good for a tougher boot, black horse hide or brown grain leather.

But for this sleeker/refined one your suggested lasts (especially the 2030) sound better.

I think I can deal with an unstructured toe for that 10 eyelets model in 2030 last, but then I would want a really dressy shoe, in black color instead of red/brown.

Is black french calf an option? Waxed flesh or sth. Yea black HH would be very good.

I think I have got Finn666 with me on this make. Anyone else? Make it happen!

Unfortunately, all the black calf would be going towards the excavated boot, and it's not like there are going to be a ton of those available in any case.

I will ask about black horse. I'm slightly confused about this makeup though. Could you give the specifications the way I have, so that I know to what exactly you are referring?

Cheers,

Fok.

Thanks, Fok. What I am talking about is basically the same boots in the photo below but in black.

http://vibergboot.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/2-2.jpg

Style: Service boots (with modified 10-eyelet top)
Leather: Black horsehide
Last: 2030
Toe: unconstructed with brogue cap
sole: Natural welt, natural (or brown) single leather midsole, leather or dainite outsole
Hardware: 10 small vintage (or gun metal) eyelets
Tongue: Black horsehide
Stitching: brown? Same as in this photo ( http://vibergboot.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/2.jpg?w=1000&h= )

BTW, not that what I think matters and I like the excavated boot in this photo (http://vibergboot.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/20130823-132129.jpg) a lot, but I am not sure about an all black french calf version of it. If the actual boot is anything similar to these (http://www.styleforum.net/content/type/61/id/924693/width/500/height/1000/flags/LL) as suggested by another member, then the distressed leather looks a bit overkill to me. I think it will look much better if they use guidi leather for an all black version of it, but then there have been similar boots made by guidi and other brands already.
