Maybe if there weren't 90 minutes of commercials every game it would help

That's why if I watch at all these days, it's almost always on DVR with my finger on fast-forward.

Yeah. This is huge. I do enjoy watching still, but I've been spending more and more time on NFL Redzone lately.

Or maybe watching more soccer has completely warped my perspective about commercial breaks and sporting events.

Also maybe CTE and safety issues is starting to erode the popularity of the game.

Does that take into account that everybody is just watching the Red Zone channel now?

Can't stand the incessant penalties and subsequent reviews. Let the boys play.

Well this is mainly comparing nationally televised primetime games so the Redzone channel wouldn't matter.

Quick fixes:

- Let the players enact their choreographed TD celebrations without penalty

- Less commercials

- More Erin Andrews

Can you imagine if FIFA tried to take away choreographed goal celebrations? Europe would literally burn.

Or the banana throwing?

I'm down with more Erin Andrews and less commercials.
While there are certainly plenty of bigger issues for the league to focus on, I'm fine with the limitations on end zone celebrations. They'd become completely stupid time-wasters. Do we really need to watch some dude doing his elaborate, choreographed shitty dance moves from some fourth-string wide-out who caught a 7-yard touchdown pass when his team is down by 24 in the fourth quarter and up to that point in the game he'd dropped two passes and caused an interception by breaking the wrong way on a route?

What are you talking about?? Celebrations when the team is down by 24 make it so much funnier!

That's a fair point.

It's not like the TD celebrations really slow the game down. The teams are usually waiting for the scoring play to be confirmed. Bigger time waster is the TD, PAT, commercial, kickoff, commercial sequence.

Oh my god...I cannot stand the "kickoff return, offense gets on the field, and commercial" sequence. That might be the most irritating break now that I think about it.

As bad as breaks in the action are when you're watching at home, they're 10x worse when you're watching live. Add in drunk, belligerent fans and the difficulty of getting to/from the stadium (which are usually far from city centers, unlike much smaller arenas for basketball/hockey and baseball stadiums), and you have an unpleasant fan experience all around. Not really worth it for anything less than a playoff game, imo.
