According to ESPN, Peyton Manning is 33rd out of 34 in passer rating. And Denver is 6-0. Either Peyton is going to cost them big time or that team will be even scarier if he starts playing like even a shadow of his old self.

Yeah, that's my guess about what happened. But since they couldn't even line up correctly it was going to be a penalty either way . . .

Is Payton really playing that badly? (Apart from the INTs)

I haven't seen that much of the Broncos this season, but from what I've seen his throws really seem to lack zip. Whether it's age, continuing effects of the neck injury, or just having his mechanics off, having it take another half-second or second for the ball to get to its target makes a big deal at this level. Is he 33 out of 34 bad? Maybe not, but from what I saw (again, not all that much) there's definitely cause for concern if you're a Denver fan.

I think his velocity is probably down fairly significantly from last year. Passes he would have been able to zip through before are now arriving late and getting picked off.

EDIT: ^wizard

Especially when you factor in the typical Payton cold weather struggles. If he gets worse in December/January, can the team win?

Trent Dilfer won a Superbowl. Then again, his QB play was probably better that year (especially given rules that now make it easier for QBs and receivers) than what Manning has turned in so far this season.

Anybody else thinking that it could be Tebow Time, Part II? Dominant defense + Tim Tebow's late-game heroics = Super Bowl champion.

Yes. Unless the defense continues to play out of it's mind in December and January, they're not winning the SB.

Was he doing well in camp in Green Bay? I know he's up there with Datone Jones (former Bruin as well; Franklin got hurt).

8:30 is a ridiculous time to start Monday Night Football. They need to move it to 8.

Having been on the East Coast for about a month, I concur. Though when I'm back in Chicago, I'm sure I'll like the current time.

I think the NFL is just unwilling to admit that baseball has the goat starting time of 7:10. Just enough time to get home, take a shower, and make some food.
