It's not practical to wear 3 layers in the 70 or 80 degree heat (undershirt, shirt, jacket)

For those who don't wear a full suit to work, what sort of jacket do you wear when it's still in the 70s and 80s?
A light colored linen jacket? Or is that strictly for summer?

Also, what kind of pants?
It's too early to wear cords, as they are more fall/winter apparel.
What if you don't want to mix jeans with a sportcoat?

A linen jacket can work as can the right tropical weight wool odd jacket. I put the white linen and seersucker away after Labor Day here in Chicago but have no issue wearing linen if the temperature is cool enough. This applies for both jackets and trousers. Fresco also can work outside of summer for trousers (jackets too I imagine but I don't own a fresco jacket). If you're truly concerned about seasonal appropriateness, I suspect tropical weight worsted may be your best choice all around.

Without wishing to revive the endless debate you can lose one layer by losing the undershirt.

Also not mentioned yet are cotton jackets, which despite their summery connotations don't really wear as cool as linen, tropical wool or fresco, so are fine for the end of the summer.

Can you post some examples of a tropical wool jackets and fresco jackets?
Where do you buy them? What brands sell these OTR with a tailored slim fit like JCrew, Boss Orange, etc?

What are some popular places to get an unstructured cotton jacket?

I'm not american, so I still wear seersucker.

Also, linen and cotton/linen.
