How much of your shirt (sport) should show under your jacket?

I have a dress shirt that I also where as a sport shirt. How much should show underneath my jacket? I usually wear a North Face type jacket so I think the lenth is 33" or so? It's definitely a fit jacket type. But the shirt I wear underneath shows maybe 2 inches outside? Just looking in the mirror, it seems a bit uncoordinated.

Don't know what a "fit jacket type" actually is but if the question you are actually asking is about whether an untucked shirt should be seen below a jacket, the answer is 'none'.

If the jacket is being worn over a tucked short, the answer is still .none'.

A photograph would have been a big help.

The shirt in the top one is ok - looks like an irrelevant accident. However the short going down "the groin area" in the lower one looks like a dreadful mismatch.

Why? Is it just too long?

What would the fix be? Wear a shorter shirt or wear a longer jacket?

I think style questions go right out the window when wearing a North Face jacket.

What if you live in San Francisco where its considered fashionable?

Style is not fashion.

Tuck in your shirt or wear a longer (grown up) jacket. An untucked shirt that is longer than one's jacket just looks sloppy and you're not going to get a proper shirt that's shorter than your jacket untucked (if you do, it will probably show your stomach when you lift your arms up).

Yeah, what's wrong with wearing a sport shirt underneath with sport shorts?

^If it's warm enough for shorts, ditch the jacket. If it's cool enough for pants, tuck the shirt in. Problem solved either way.

Are these mistakes then (from Neiman Marcus)?
