I have not seen any marked as seconds. Sierra Trading also sells older models at a discount.

Sierra Trading Post also has a 30% off sale today.

Cheers.
Just checked it out, they don't seem to have much selection.

I didn't actually look. I bought a pair of hiking boots last night from them.

I like their books, and I can usually find them at an attractive sale price, but the damn branded logo on the outside heel drives me nuts. I just can take a pair home with me.

i'm curious why Frye boots don't get much love around SF? Are their boots really that bad in terms of fit and construction? I've read dismal reviews of the Frye Walter boot (the Indy knockoff boot) and was curious what your thoughts were on this company. It seems that with all the interest in work boot styles Frye could easily benefit from this trend.

They don't get much love around the forum because they're a fashion "brand" now, owned by a Chinese conglomerate. The forum gets snobby about such things, and generally prefers heritage boot and shoe makers like Alden (or Red Wing, Allen Edmonds, etc). As a multinational brand, they farm out production to Mexico (the boot capitol of Mexico, no less), China, and even a facility in Arkansas. Northing necessarily wrong with that, but pedigree matters to many on SF. As for quality, Frye's made in the USA or even Mexico are usually not bad. I've owned some and they're fine. They are goodyear welted, mostly and the materials are on par for the price point, and you can frequently get them on discount. For someone trying to dress well on a budget, it's a decent option. You can just do a lot better if you're willing to shell out some more (Alden, Tricker's, etc), and if you plan on having them for a decade or more, it's a better route to go....

Posted a query at the "Ask your questions" corner and got the answer here! Thanks for being straightforward with FRYEs! Great help!

I'd never really paid much attention to Frye in the past, having viewed them primarily as makers of hippie boots for college age girls, but was I wrong. I bought these "Artisinal Harness" boots at my girl's recommendation (she was ordering a pair of engineer boots) and they will likely be the first of many from this company. Yeah, some of their distressed finishes look a little too contrived, but the construction and materials used in these boots is easily as good as or better than anything I've seen from Alden, Red Wing, etc.

Frye is also a great way to get that RRL aesthetic without paying RRL prices. I find both brands to be on a par with one another. So, for example, the Frye Billy cowboy boot at $2-300? Solid. Typical RRL brand cowboy boot at $800? That's a little much.

Those Artisinal Harness boots are real nice! Their 'Artisinal' boots are probably Frye's top quality boots (highest price too, unless you find them on 6PM or Nordstrom Rack) Agree Frye quality (esp made in America and Mexico) are on par with Redwing, Wolverine, etc. I Just bought their standard harness, just to have a pull on for this fall, and they exceeded my expectations comfort wise. Look wise, they are very cool, I think this style boot is where Frye excels - probably the best boot for the money.

Yes, build wise, you are probably right with the artisanal. I compared the harness boot from Frye with the Murdock engineer boot I have from RRL and the Frye actually seemed to be a little better made in my opinion, with better materials also. I may go for the lace up engineer from the artisanal line next..

I bought a pair of Frye Logan factory distressed cap toe boots in "whiskey" color (150th anniversary edition, USA made) from Amazon. They probably have been sitting in the warehouse for a long time and the leather needs some TLC. What leather treatment or conditioner would you recommend for these boots. I like the distressing but don't mind if the leather goes a shade or two darker as it appears a bit reddish brown at the moment. Thanks!
