Graydon Carter showing how it's done in navy on navy.

Robert Redford rocks the navy on navy.  It's not the only combination, but it's a classic combination:

I know a lot of people are not fans of Mr. Beckham, but I liked this combination of navy solid suit, white shirt, and navy pindot tie.

You don't want to be wearing the purple and canary ties.  Can someone call in a tailor to hem up those pants before these gentlemen see the Prince?

Let me show you politicians how it's done:

Nothing wrong with Cameron's break (although note the loafers with the suit).

Canary yellow is the LibDem party colour, which probably explains Clegg's tie choice.

What really surprises me is how much the lapels are bowing in Cameron's and Miliband's suits.  The Prince's suit, by contrast, is properly fitted.

What do royals wear when they meet each other?  Frequently, it's navy-on-navy.  The solid navy suits have jetted instead of flap pockets.  The Japanese Emperor with Prince Charles:

It's been a long time my friend -- Elizabeth with Akihito in 1953:

The Emperor with Ehud Olmert when he was Prime Minister of Israel (a non-royal, but the leader of a state):

Sorry to be late to this party. Very interesting indeed and compelling reading.

Our politicians in the UK seldom, if ever, do it well. Cameron is a prime example, pardon the pun, for reasons already outlined. Turn on the TV here any day and you can expect to see a politician's blue suit debacle.

On the other hand…

Haven't you heard Cleav, politicians are underpaid, they're practically volunteers! Need to make do with what Sue Ryder has to offer!

Thank you Cleav.  The contrast between Charles and Cameron is quite instructive:

Speaking of politicians, here's LBJ in his entry for this week's navy-on-navy contest:
