Any clue when the S&C cardigans will be restocked--particularly the navy in small?
Not this winter season, I'm afraid. It's too late to get them knitted and delivered before spring.

I have five pairs of Alden boots / shoes (mostly of the Leather Soul variety) as well as a four pairs of Heschungs (both boots and shoes). Both are excellent in their own way. Both quite sturdy, both meant to be worn and well worn, not ogled at inside a display case, both have an "honest" feel to them, both very high quality footwear. Neither is as refined as say Lobb, EG, G&G or their ilk, but both are superb at the more casual end of the shoe spectrum (in neither brand do I have dressier options - refined dress styles are not the wheelhouse for either company I think). Heschung finishing is a little more refined (they are surprisingly well finished), they tend to do more with different construction techniques (Goodyear, Norwegian, etc.) and can be a bit more fashion forward in the context of classic menswear (many different shades of leather / suede, different leather treatments, use of different leathers / other materials (wool) in the same shoe, etc.), Alden is perhaps a little more classic and conservative stylistically, with a little more of a heritage flavor. Certainly, I find Heschung's offerings at least as well made as Alden's if not more so, but both happily ake up plenty of room in my closet.

Not sure why Heschung doesn't get as much love as it should - it's great stuff. Love mine and they get plenty of wear.

BTW, one thing re: Heschung - sizing can be a little wonky. I am an 11/11.5 US and take 9.5 or sometimes 10 in Heschung. Best to ask the NMWA crew for specifics.

given that Heschung made (makes?) all the Norwegian welted shoes for one of those brands - I don't know if that's some sort of trade secret so I won't say much more... ;-)

I do agree with the general statement of course.

Interesting - I did not know that. Also, I think "refined" was the wrong choice of words on my part. Heschungs are very well made, very well finished, as you say, but given the Norwegian welting and the resulting more casual styling, these are not necessarily dress boots. That more accurately captures what I was (poorly) trying to get across, especially as those other brands are known primarily for their dress / city offerings (frankly, I wasn't aware that any of those other brands had Norwegian welted offerings, but given the very high level of finishing on the Heschungs I have, what you've written makes sense). Did not mean to imply that Heschungs are less well made in any way, more that they generally have a more of a casual, quasi-outdoorsy aesthetic.

Long and short, IMO, Heschung makes a great product, are (unfairly?) under-the-radar in the US, and at a fraction the price of those more citified brands are truly superb value for money, so give them a go! You won't be disappointed. I just wish more styles were on offer stateside and am glad the NMWA team is carrying them.

Thanks TC for sharing your experience and appreciate the advice. I 'll have to do some research and see if I can nail down the correct size,as its a long way to ship boots.

All the best

Edouard I was looking at the Panax. The rubber sole looks pretty comfortable. I need some cushion but can't be crepe due to the amount of dirt it picks up. My leather sole boots just beat me up after wearing all day. The Panax looks like it could hanlde snow mud etc and then clean up to wear with slacks. We may be the same size, i wear a 9 in J&M, 8.5 in Alden barrie and trubalance. That Malko is a great looking boot btw.

They have a similar fit. If your foot is not particularly narrow, I would go with your regular size.
If you have a narrow foot, you can size down 0.5 without worry because these shoes are quite long.

I was writing about the pairs of Heschungs I already own, purchased elsewhere between one and five years ago (BNY, Heschung website, Heschung boutique in Bordeaux). I am a 44.5EU, 11US (sometimes 11.5US) and usually a 10.5UK. My Heschungs are either 10 or 9.5 and fit me very well. Perhaps I have strange feet or it's just the specific models I own. But either way, I defer to your experience with the models on the site, hence my post suggesting that others contact you directly for sizing advice prior to ordering. And I agree, every pair of Heschungs I own are quite comfortable. Great for walking IMO.
