xpost of a great shoe from NMWA:

Took me a few months but finally got around to wearing the U Cap from No Man Walks Alone. After half day wear really comfortable and loosened up a little which is nice

Still mulling that La Portegna Fat Carter... any real life pics of it? I'm sure it's not the case, but for some reason I'm getting a plasticky vibe from the leather in the photos I have seen...

I do not have the fat carter, but as far as what the leather looks like my picture of the portfolio is fairly accurate. I do not know why youre geting a plasticky vibe, it is by far the nicest leather I've ever handled (which only means so much, but I do own the calabrese too)

I have the La Portegna portfolio too and the leather is really beautiful. Not even remotely plastic like.

Maybe it's the shine that I am seeing - thanks guys. Certainly not saying it is plasticky, just want to double check. :)

I can see how the pictures may look off if you're used to soft leather bags. The veg tan leather is really rigid out of the box and only softens with wear. It's very different from chrome-tanned and softened leather. I would compare that to raw denim. It will mark, patina and softens in different ways for different people.

Very helpful analogy Greg. As someone who is still learning about leathers, I was not impressed with the Fat Carter when I handled it in person because the leather seemed plasticy (you aren't crazy @Mr. Moo). I look forward to seeing some pics of the aged product.
