Shoe Shopping in Taipei, Taiwan

1000

The bamboo(?) shaped Taipei 101

Since I`ll be staying in Taipei for few weeks, I thought it would be fun to compile a list of shoe-shopping destinations in this city. Admittedly, Taipei is not as quite fashion forward as Tokyo or other major Asian cities, but new boutiques have been popping up here and there. In short, you`re able to get Aldens, Church`s, John Lobbs, Santonis, and even Berlutis. There are also local shoemakers and manufacturers like Aso and La New that are quite popular here.

This is a list in making, and I will be updating it throughout my stay here. I know there are a few SF members living here in Taipei, or have families living here. Please feel free to chip in!

I think there is a bespoke shoe workshop in Taipei isn't it? 神岡右線?

神岡右線 (Turnright) is located in Taichung, in central Taiwan. They are the parent company of Kamioka/Ingenuity shoes in Japan, but I believe they don`t do B2C business here in Taiwan. I`m not certain if they take Bespoke orders either. I actually wanted to visit their workshop during this trip, but unfortunately didn`t work out due to schedule conflict.

edit: Turnright shoes (RTW, Bespoke) are available to consumers. The Thurs in Taichung carries them.

http://www.cleankicks.com.tw/saphir/gide/main.php

It seems more Saphir products are available in TW due to easier import regulations.

Awesome. Thanks for the link Chogall. I better drop by their stores and see whats up.

克林奇克有限公司 CLEAN KICKS LTD. (seriously, what`s up with their company`s Chinese name?)
TEL:(02)2378-0268
FAX:(02)2378-0264
台北市信義區基隆路二段149-17號2樓
營業時間:週一至週五 09:00~18:00

The above address is their head office. You can buy direct from them. (they have online store too)
They used to have a Saphir store located in Eslite Xingyi, but it closed this April. They`re looking for a new location.

I was going to say Mr.Cobbler in Sogo carries some Saphir, but there seems to be an official outlet now :)

They do, but they seem to focus on making factory shoes right now and been elusive regarding the details. I've inquired but two weeks isn't long enough for fitting shoes to come out.

Fair enough. Bespoke shoe process always takes time. However, I am more keen on the pricing, their bespoke work seems very good. It seems they had visited Mr. Eric Cook, a marker which I used before.

Who did Mr. Cook worked for?  I know he's one of the older generation shoemakers thats passing down the crafts.

He works as a sole trader, I think there is only a telephone contact online, no website or email. Very nice work, for some reason similar to Cleverley bespoke with a cheaper price tag.

I confirmed with a Turnright rep, and yes their shoes (RTW and Bespoke) are indeed available in Taiwan, but they prefer to have us go through one of their contracted retailers. Turnright doesn`t operate their own retail store. The Thurs boutique in Taichung has Turnright RTW shoes in stock, and they also take MTO and Full Bespoke.

Turnright RTW and MTO costs between 20000 NTD to 30000 NTD @ The Thurs

Turnright Full Bespoke starts from 45000 NTD ($1500 USD) or so. Lead time is 1 to 1.5 months (or so I was told but I guess longer if a fitting session is involved?)

I was told that their shoes are not available in Taipei. :uhoh:
