At the risk of being called a racist, the population of Mexico is largely derived from central American Indians, and they as a race (gasp!) are generally short and stocky. BMI is just a ratio of height to weight and it's far more likely to call them obese than others. That's in contrast to the North American Indians who were (supposedly) tall and lean.

Granted there are a ton of awesome fast food chains along every main strip of every southern town I've ever driven through. Like more in a few miles than many many miles squared of any urban center.

However.."food education"? Cmon man. $7.99 whole rotis chicken at the supermarket and - forget the daunting labyrinth of the produce section - a stinkin' bag of frozen mixed veggies. And maybe a few potatos. Micro'd..margarine not butter.

There. Fed a family of four with more than adequate nutrition, low fat/sodium and spent $14.

*thats def cheaper than four fast food combos come to think about it.

Be better off with the butter. Trans-fats are bad, mmmkay?

Are pre-cooked supermarket chickens actually low sodium?

Sodium is only bad for you if you have a sensitivity to it. Most people do not.

They are if they don't put salt on them .All the salts on the skin if you don't eat that they are no sodium

Diabetics, folks with kidney issues , high blood pressure to name a few. I'm a big believer in whole non processed foods . I think its more important than what you eat

I don't know about diabetics or people with kidney issues but the high blood pressure thing is a myth unless you are sensitive to sodium.

"Science" would have you believe there is a relationship between salt and blood pressure, anyway.

(I haven't investigated it myself).

(Would like to know it's OK to cross salt off the worry list).

Ah, "science." This explains much.

Wait, you are the last person I thought would believe science is a social construct or patriarchal myth. I thought we were Popper bros! Maybe that was someone else.

I don't know why you put science in quotes. It's science that tells us changing sodium levels has a negligible effect on blood pressure...

I just threw sodium in there from some misremembered fact from Supersize Me or something some vegan said. Fat's the thing.
I think it's trans-fats and sugar now (even saturated fat has some benefits, depending). The science keeps changing -- or clarifying -- which I suppose is a good thing.

Can't believe I was behind on the sodium thing.
