Why? I'm sure they are making boatloads of money off of fibro folks.

I house sat for a womyn almost 25 years ago who believed she had FM. She subscribed to a newsletter which was hands down the funniest thing I'd ever read in my life. There were basically two kinds of articles in it...how to deal with unbelievers and how to make sure you could get disability. I stole it when I left so I could show people and because it made me pee in my pants laugh every single time I read it.

You can't not share the name of the newsletter. I want to subscribe to it.

Why wouldn't Mayo have a clinic like this? Think of the billings they must be pulling down

Can you get on the disability dole for incontinence?

Exactly. Like I said, if some catastrophe hits, I understand needing some help, but I'm often shocked at what people will solicit help for. Sorry, dude, but the fact that you assumed you'd never need your health insurance and didn't prepare for the deductible isn't the rest of the world's problem to fix.

The ones that really irritate me are when people ask for money so they can start a small business. Sure, I'd love to pay your way while you embark upon a pipe dream no actual investor will support, and, assuming you actually make money on the endeavor, I'd love to help your business become successful in exchange for zero equity!

And, again, I don't understand why people aren't ashamed of begging in the first place. It's like taking the face-to-face solicitation out of the transaction has lowered the bar for what's considered worthy of suspending embarrassment.

Whenever I grouse about crap like this I get accused of being an old curmudgeon. Well actually I am but still........

There's no shame because everyone is a special little flower, and everyone is a winner!  Why would you be ashamed when you're a special winner?

Tbh the only two people I've ever known who actually told me that they were diagnosed with fibro were as alpha male as you get . One was the working owner of a company that insulated industrial piping systems whose name was Spider and the other was a retired baseball player who went 10 years in the majors as a catcher his name was Red

It goes without saying that your examples will always be outliers.

There are almost certainly a fair number of people who have real problems of one sort or another, problems that should be treated or diagnosed or discovered, but don't because they get lumped in with all the fakers.

True.

My own instinctive reaction to people suffering from Lyme Disease is now totally, unfairly colored by the FB postings of a friend of friends who did a GoFundMe campaign to fund his stay at a fancy alternative treatment clinic in Switzerland, and whose frequent FB posts mostly consist of:
1. Personal health updates (almost always dire)
2. Articles about (at least loosely) Lyme Disease, which tend to posit a medical/insurance establishment conspiracy to deny its existence or discourage its diagnosis and/or ascribe to it a variable cluster of symptoms comparable to that of fibro.
3. Vacation photos.

Some of the gofundmes I've seen....it's just a human train wreck with a complete dearth of dignity and self-respect...but tons of "self-esteem."

Lyme disease reminds me of the time my daughter came home and told us her friend in Berkeley  was bitten by a brown recluse. Curious I looked it up. Every authority of any repute stated that there were no brown recluse spiders in Ca.When I showed this to her she responded"well thats bullshit because my friend was just bitten by one" Millennial logic

So I just went there and searched for "eviction." Now, I hate to see people evicted however this is sadly funny.

Help My Daughter And I

There's even a youtube where she repeats that. Okay, so why sadly shake my head at this poor woman's grammar?

Those who donate are also more than welcome to ask me for any assistance in their writing, or in any other task that I am able to do. I am an excellent expository writer...

Also, per her youtube, the daughter is named after Ariana Stark.
