the word "fascism" is losing its meaning at this point

Please note my carefully chosen phrase of "fascist tendencies." They are certainly displaying several attributes of it in their need of ideological purity, suppression of free speech, punishment of dissenters, and cries for a totalitarian authority to enforce this all.

I would say that even outside of his usual range, he seems to have a special misogynistic streak. The gendered insults, reducing women to their appearance, this gross feud with Cruz about their wives.

Even if he's not actually a misogynistic (vs just a general hateful asshole), I can't imagine this stuff is going to play well with female voters in the general. He's getting female votes in the primaries, but women tend to vote more Democratic anyway and the shtick is going to look a lot less cute after another eight months of Trumpishness. Especially running against Hillary, it's pretty much inevitable that he's going to call her a cunt or tell her to get back in the kitchen or something that won't brush off easily.

Trump hasn't had much support with women, so perhaps he's not wrong to just double down on these kinds of things. It does three things:

1. Keeps him in the news. And keeps the news off policy which he doesn't have.
2. Opens up the whole Clinton affair and likely ongoing affairs.
3. Increases his support among the demographic he is targeting.

I know that politics is winner takes all, but sometimes I think politicians worry too much about their polls with certain groups. You only have to win a few niches to win if your support is deep enough.

Took me a couple days to bring this to mind, but Trump was whole hog on board with the Birther bullshit. That's pretty unambiguously racist, whether Trump was doing it cynically to get attention or whether he believed it is really irrelevant.

It's also amazing that he's basically getting a pass on it. He's said so much outrageous shit that being a Birther doesn't even register anymore.

Someone's going to have to fill me in on how the birther stuff was "unambiguously racist."

The Obama worshipping media and Obama himself are responsible for the birther movement. Obama used it for political gain, which is why he refused to provide his birth certificate for so long. The media cried when Obama was elected. He floated above them as a sort of god.

Well, sure. The darkies have always been responsible for the stuff they've complained about. Often for failing to cheerfully obey the lawful orders of cops and overseers.

That said, I'm not sure the birther thing was unambiguously racist. People were opposed to him for whatever disparate reasons they were opposed to him, but once people decided they were against him. the birther thing strikes me as your run-of-the-mill cheap political ploys leveraged with our love of conspiracy theories.

Speaking of Obama and the media I've noticed they're already creating his legacy for him. He's the most moral, most patient, most honest, most dignified, most reasonable and nicest POTUS ever and we're going to miss him when he's gone.

I do think he's not a bad guy, he's obviously a very devoted father, but my eyes might get stuck permanently rolled up with the legacy narrative I see forming.

Don't get the impression that I'm blind to Obama's short comings but the right has some responsibility here too.Every thing he has done ,some of which was in line with or to the right of Saint Ronnie, has been met with screams of "commie muslim dictator " from the Republican camp.Hell just look at uproar he caused when ,at the request of the local native Americans , the majority of the population, the states governing officials and within the power of Department  of the Interior, simply changed the name of a mountain in Alaska. It leaves some of us scratching our heads and asking "really"

How does the right have any culpability for what other people say about Obama? You're going to maintain Repubs have some level of culpability for this narrative by the MSM that I already see happening? So if all the Repubs say Obama is too tall can we expect part of the new narrative is that he's the most perfectly sized POTUS ever?

Obama's immune to criticism because he's black and black people have been treated unfairly in the past. You sure proved Lighthouse wrong!

The thing about the Obama criticism = racism line that's so ridiculous is that there's no shortage of stereotypes of black politicians... or so I've heard... but even Obama's most outspoken critics don't accuse him of being a stupid, corrupt, womanizing drunkard.
