But there’s a deeper issue here, a troubling aspect of spooning that emerges in the dimension of ideology, of what it all means.

Please recall the big spoon/little spoon roles I described earlier. A look at the gay adaptation of these terms is useful in exposing the power relationship they instantiate. Among gay men, big spoon and little spoon have become softer ways of signaling whether one is a top or a bottom during sex. But, as has been true of the top/bottom dynamic since the beginning, these also carry certain connotative weight: Big spoons are manly and will take care of you (provided you let them use you to take care of themselves); little spoons are fragile, passive creatures that need to be held and kept safe. This, of course, is fundamentally a sexist arrangement, one that casts the big spoon as “the man” and the little spoon as “the woman.” To say that this power imbalance is built into all acts of spooning—whichever the sexes engaged—is not, I think, an overstatement. Indeed, I would argue that spooning is always already a power play, a perverse strategy by which we nightly enact the unjust relations of “big” and “little” privilege that plague our society on every level.

That guy is definitely just upset that his girlfriend boyfriend makes him be the little spoon.

Maybe I'm just grumpy this week, but does it make me a bad person to want the author of that Slate article to be pilloried in the public square? First Amendment and all that . . . but really?

Slate is increasingly devolving into "I had a thought and so I wanted to write and article about it but it was pointless so we added a social justice slant to make it worth writing about."

You do realize that the need for scale (net publicity needs to reach a lot of people for a "news" website to make $$$) has turned almost everything into clickbait, feel good, consensual, easily digested bullshit? Grantland couldn't make it cause it was too niche and deep, think about that.

Also Bill Simmons too inflammatory for Disney.

That's why I prefer the spork metaphor to describe my sexual dynamics.

" My guy and I were home one afternoon, and we were both unexpectedly horny at the same time. We dove into a spontaneous bout of 69ing. All was going well until I opened my eyes. That’s when I saw it: his butthole. I was so startled by the sight of his red eye staring at me that I immediately screamed and ran out of his flat and all the way home where I launched into a series of panic attacks. Now I’m medicated and receiving counselling for PTSD, which my cheapskate boyfriend won't pay for - my problem, ugh! I told him that after this harrowing encounter with the part of a man’s body no woman should ever have to think about let alone see I need a safe and supportive setting before I can resume our relationship. He talked over me saying he has no idea how to provide this. I'm flooded with insecurities. Does my boyfriend love me as much as he loves his butthole?"

That's some poor marketing right there. Do you they expect people to buy their products without showing what the results look like?
