I told her that was crazy as kids are going to drink and do drugs so harm mitigation was the goal. She freaked out, told the class how this was illegal for minors, etc., harmful, and we can actually change the viewpoint and behavioiurs of populations so we needed to work on kids not drinking or doing drugs.

Then came talk on abortion, birth control, and abstinence.

Bush was governor of Texas at the time and she was bashing him left and right as he believed in abstinence only, and kids were going to have sex so...harm mitigation was the goal. I turned her inside fucking out in front of 25 grad students. "Well, last class you told us we can stop kids from drinking when I said harm mitigation was the goal. You told us we can change behaviours to zero tolerance, blah blah blah blah." Her final answer was a man has no right to talk about abortion. She looked like a complete fucking schmuck and her reviews all mentioned me turning her inside out.

So while I think free abortions and birth control are the single best ROI my tax dollars can be spent on also realize this means you're good with kids drinking and doing drugs.

You do realize it is possible erotic drive might be more primordial (unchangeable in its essence if not its manifestation) while drinking fermented cereals could be cultural and highly changeable?

It's 100% a civil liberties issue and if you think it through it has nothing to do with "gender equality."

It is usually classified under the rubric of "privacy", as having control over intimate decisions regarding one's body is one of the many aspects of that concept in USA law circles AFAIK.

While I'm sure everyone applauds this progress toward equality, there's still one giant area of disparate impact in who we are and are not saving from breast cancer.

Then why do junkies put getting high over sex? Why will rats starve to death while hitting the button that gives them the jolt from the implanted electrode that simulates being high?

People get drunk all the time in Shakespeare, and it doesn't get any more cultural than that.

Just saying your teacher could have easily held both positions she had and defended them, she probably had never thought WHY she held those positions, hence the lack of proper answer.

The lack of the proper answer was because she was/is an ideological moron. She held her position on abstinence and Gov. Bush because that's what everyone in her echo chamber thought at the time and no doubt still do.
