I remember not all that long ago, high school and early college for me, when mulatto was still an acceptable term for a person of mixed black and white race. I don't say it anymore, but I now know how it feels to be that old person who used to say "colored" and mean nothing offensive by it.

That is only assuming his mother was 100 percent white and his father 100 percent black... if either one is not "pure" he does not fit into that category.

Bi-racial, mixed race, multicultural, etc. Yes, these are all much more vague, but I don't necessarily find fault with people being displeased at being called a term derived from mule.

I dunno I've heard it used here in Atlanta with no offense. I think (at least here) it's more just archaic than anything else. If you go to Gullah territory it's used widely.

That actually may not be source of the term there is an equal chance it derives from an arabic term
