I take your point, but I think to a certain extent this is an internet/social media phenomenon where the very fanaticism of the crazy re-purposers draws attention and distorts the perception of what "mainstream feminism" is really about. (I'm not sure there's a simple way to define that, but for me at least it brings to mind more, say, Sheryl Sandberg than Gloria Allred). Plus, the crazy shit the online screamers say gets responded to with equal vehemence and lunacy by hyper-sensitive or genuinely misogynistic men, of which there's no shortage either. All of which (much like what happens with politics generally) makes the most visible "debate" a celebrity death match among hateful idiots.
