I need feminism because tumblr - Page 192

You're sexist because you don't read the right books. That's right folks, sexism isn't actions or even attitudes anymore. No, you need to be actively trying to not be sexist and seek out books written exclusively by women.

In other words, educate yourself, shitlord!

LOL. Now this is creeper:

For example, I was riding the subway recently when I noticed my seatmate scrolling through a Twitter feed that looked remarkably like mine. I was tickled to be sitting next to a like-minded person, but as I looked on I noticed there was one thing that seemed to be missing from his newsfeed: women. He was following fantastic and smart men, but still - as far as I could tell, all men.

Can you imagine someone actually reading your smartphone like that?

I had heard something about this earlier this year. Not only must you shun dead white authors like Plato and Aristotle and Locke and Descartes and Hume (i.e. Western civilization) but you must seek out female African poetry of the 16th century.

For some reason Marx and Engels are still ok.

Same reason Mark Ruffalo can have an opinion about abortion even though he lacks a vag.

Her scenario didn't actually happen. I don't doubt she might have glanced at someone's phone and seen a few posts, but to stare at it long enough to see every single person he followed? I call shenanigans.

I totally believe that. Women are way bigger creeps. I've caught chicks checking my phone, and smelling my shirts.

Just scanned the titles of the rest of her articles.. how can people let one facet of their life (feminism) corrupt their opinions on everything?

You should read the comments under Jessica Valenti's columns on the Guardian. She's famous for being able to make any article, regardless of subject matter, the fault of men.

She gets called out on it every time and the comments are much more entertaining than her columns.

I don't know about that author in particular, but feminism is The Cause for a lot of people. It seems like they're trying to convince every that unless you're fully bought in to The Cause, you're also a sexist. It's pretty widespread though, just look at all the "educate yourself" and "check your privilege" memes running around.

I don't suspect they're going to get a lot of traction on that one. It's one thing to ask people to remove sexist behavior, but most people are just trying to live their lives. They're not going to devote them to feminism or whatever else, and there's going to be backlash if the feminists keep being so damn pushy about it. No one wants to hear that they're a bad person for not being a zealot.

I'm glad that I don't know any of these people in real life. At least no one I spend any decent amount of interactions with appears to be this way. Where are they all hiding?

I did have a few professors in school like this. I had one English prof tell the class, "If men got breast cancer there would be a cure for it." She freaked out when I pointed out that men do indeed get breast cancer, just at far lower rates, and under her logic prostate cancer would be cured but instead it's the #1 most common cancer in the US.

I've known people like this. I generally ignore them, or post about them in this Fred to mock them anonymously.

Ah, they're in academia. Of course. And probably journalism as well. Which is why it feels like I'm constantly assailed by this stuff but don't actually know anyone who publicly holds these views

I know one guy like that. He's into gender, racial, and queer studies; it goes without saying he's in academia. If it weren't for this thread teaching me their abstruse terminology and theories, I wouldn't understand three-quarters of what he posts about on FB.
