Some of these kids would have been in asylums not so long ago, and we're trying to get them to take standardized tests. It's lunacy.

I don't know where the solution lies there. The "alternative school" approach gets them out of gen-pop, but basically condemns them to a second-class education.

This is such horseshit. This is 2015. Almost literally (and I mean almost literally, not almost figuratively) any question can be answered in 5 minutes on the internet. If a kid wants to learn there is nothing to stop him/her from walking into a fucking library and learning it. The idea that you need asshole overpaid union teacher fuckwits who don't know the information themselves to teach kids is laughable.

When 99% of everything taught in school is available for free on wikipedia your profession is done. Teachers need to transition to something else. We don't need buggy whip makers anymore, either.

Learn a language for free. Forever.

I haven't used this site personally, but I'd be willing to bet dollars to cronuts it's better at teaching a foreign language than 90% of all teachers in the country.

And it's fucking free.

EDIT - Public schooling is so fucking last century. Get your heads out of your asses. It's too goddamn expensive, it doesn't work, and nobody likes it. There is no positive benefit to it. foo.gif

DOUBLE EDIT - You socialist assholes could get away with this shit in the 19th century because everybody lived on farms like Little House on the Prairie, but that's not the case anymore. Bums on the street and homeless people have smart phones. There's no excuse for being a worthless uneducated piece of shit anymore.

TRIPLE EDIT - Yes, I've had a few cocktails thus far.

You can learn Klingon through the site. I'm sold. In seriousness though, thanks for the link - definitely going to check it out further.

That was just the first google link when I typed in "free foreign language education." There were dozens more. I'm not endorsing any of them, but there's plenty out there to explore.

That approach might work for college. It's not going to work for kids. They lack all the fundamental skills that you need to effectively educate yourself, and they're not going to learn them by sitting in front of a computer on their own.

The philosophy of education for the last century or so has been industrial assembly line. A vast array of facts are presented, and the actual learning of the facts is largely beside the point. It was all about A) learning discipline so you could be trusted to sit still in your job B) building the skills to actually learn all those facts. That model doesn't work so well anymore, but it's way too simplistic to pretend kids can just learn everything on their own. The process of learning, the discipline behind it, creativity, critical thinking, determining reliable sources, those are all things that require some level of formal education from people who actually know wtf they're doing (and 99.5% of parents have no clue). Hell, forcing kids to actually sit still and focus on something for more than nine goddam seconds at a time is still obviously a skill that many need to learn.

A lot of schools are going to flipped classrooms, with lectures consumed at home and then additional skills building and practice happening in the classroom. It's an evolving system, but it's pretty ridiculous to think we could toss it.

More horseshit. 99.5% of all teachers, and 100% of all administrators have no clue. Kids learn because that's what they do, it's genetic. As the great Lady Gaga said, they were born that way. Unless you keep a kid in a basement with no stimulus he/she will learn shit. And frankly, I question the value of teaching people shit that in probably less than 10 years we're going to have brain implants that update the information to us immediately Matrix style.

Will these robotic enhancements be able to give me Harvey level alcohol tolerance?

They will probably be able to mimic the effects of alcohol in your brain thus preventing hangovers!

We won't even need alcohol then. Just dial your "intoxication level" up to 11. You'll be fine. The best part is you'll be able to instantly dial it right back down to zero. Fucking win. The future is going to be great.

The same chips can be used to give people heart attacks when they even consider using a selfie stick.

You think people smart enough to make brain control chips aren't going to be leftists? Keep dreaming.

Right, that's why Apple is staying firmly in California and not at all building or relocating to Texas.

By the time society gets to a dictatorship they all start to look the same to the general populace.
