Yeah except he didn't try to take her purse, he was photographing a public location. She was entirely in the wrong here.

Where I am from a friend of mine once beat up another kid's dad when said father went to my friend's house to push him around for fighting with his kid.

Anyway, to illustrate my point: imagine she'd caught him trying to take her purse. Everything else is the same, and she's fine. She's only in trouble here because she was wrong about whether what he did was against the law.

Where the fuck are you from?

I think you are in the wrong here, and I'm holding you in this thread untill a mod arrives.

That nerd got rolled.

This kid is why we need feminism. He clearly shows no respect to the goddess that is trying to enlighten him and show him the path to forgiveness. His actions show that he is part of rape culture thinking he can take from womyn what ever it is that he wants--- even spank bank materials. No means no and if you gonna be a creeper, you gonna get treated like a pervert.

In what universe is a 17 year old going to "submit" to whatever arbitrary bullshit a 23 year old is pushing on them? Come on.

She also had absolutely no way to know if he was over 18 or not.

I do not think a reasonable person would consider taking photos in public a crime no matter how much they did not want said photos to be taken.

Exactly. Ataturk's scenario here is basically "Well, if something totally different had happened, she'd be in the right!" This is the idfnl school of argumentation. Imagine he'd raped her and murdered her puppy! She'd be a hero!

Also from the brief reading I did, citizen's arrest doesn't apply to minor offenses. Would welcome the lawyers to chime in on that. Either way, you'd better be damn sure a crime has been committed or you're risking false imprisonment/assault charges.

On another note, copied from the Dumb Facebook thread in GC;

This is the opposite side of the coin. A woman so insecure in herself and her husband's fidelity that she wants other women to cover up and bans her husband from going online when too many people are posting salacious pictures. Because, apparently, he just can't help himself.

I am just flabbergasted that you've apparently never seen someone ask you to assume something in order to focus or clarify an argument. Sheesh!

I have not done a 50-state survey, but traditionally you can in fact make a citizen's arrest of someone for committing a misdemeanor, as long as it was committed in your presence and it's a the sort of offense that constitutes a breach of the peace (that's a term of art and fairly broad). And you can use reasonable force to prevent them for escaping. And, yeah, you are liable civilly and maybe criminally (depending on the intent requirements of the offense, I imagine) if you turn out to be wrong.

Ataturk has never seen a case of unwarranted aggression by an authority figure he didn't agree with.
