A bonfire would be a good start so that you can burn the lot as the advice that you have been given above. Buying on Fleabay or at a second hand shop are never good ideas.

What on earth was your previous line up like of you are showing these of as something good?

What do you do in daily life? You do not have very many black shoes... Depending on your line of work, I'd think about getting another pair like the black AEs.

Personally I'm with MyOtherLife on this one. You clearly like Allen Edmonds! Those are good shoes. I especially like the black ones. Have you thought about branching out a bit - C&J, Alden?

May not be true and in all likelihood is not. All of us liked AE but that lasted only until we tried something else and that was the end of it. I don't think it's the case for example that he tried EG too and he chose AE over them.

What do you suggest Buddha25 branch out in?

it all has to do with what one's budget is but still not as simple as that. To be honest, it's a gradual process and you can't force it. Noone who wears $100 shoes (all of us started there including the OP with the shoes in the lower right corner) could ever see ourselves spending $1500 for a pair of shoes. Never. The sound of it would sound ridiculous. So you can't just go to a guy whose shoes are all below $X and tell them 'hey, why don't you try these shoes, which btw cost $10X.' You just can't. But the OP clearly is into shoes. Normal people don't own 10 pairs of shoes. SO, all it will take for him for example is to try a pair of EG, G&G etc. He may end up owning one when he sees an opportunity for a used, good condition pair for example for $400 and gets on it. So for me, that is the beginning of a new phase. Provided that his finances permit, you come back in 3 years and all the shoes you see in the pic, likely not a single exception will still be there. Not one. But again, that's a gradual process. That happened with me and it happened with pretty much everyone whose collection is made up of $1000+ pairs.

You may say why can't I keep my AE pairs as beaters? Even that is hard to do. If you are used to wearing much better shoes, why can't your beater pair also be a better pair? Take your oldest EG pair and call that your beater. This in an addiction.

I've tried both AE and EG and I'd pick AE over EG any day given their prices and the fact that both are goodyear welted. If one is going goodyear welted anyway, I say go for a relatively cheap shoe. At EG's price point there are many better options in my view. At AE's price point, not so many.

More and more competitors are emerging that AE is going to have to deal with. Not optimistic AT ALL about AE's future (unless they update their lasts or something).
But if you were to ignore price for a sec, you can't tell me you'd choose the AE Park Avenue in the pic above over the EG Chelsea on the 82 last. If you bring in the price aspect of it, then it essentially comes down to how much premium you are willing to pay in order to own the shoe that you really like over the one that's good but you are really not in love with.

I'm not in love with any EG shoes, as I said I think there are other better options that are better constructed for that price in my view. They are better than AEs in terms of aesthetics sure. Don't misunderstand the price-statement. My point was that at the price of EG, there are much better options out there in my view. If one is operating at the AE-level budget, this is less clear.

I guess you're referring to brands like Meermin? I agree AE is going to see increasing competition but so far given their leather quality and the deep discounted prices, probably still competitive. If one is based in the US, the recrafting program they offer is probably a plus too.
