lol, that is a fair point... I didn't think they were that unconventional. :P But I haven't worn it so I can return it if need be. I did also get some striped shirts in a more conventional navy which I'll probably stick with a navy/red striped tie, or navy tie with red spots. But that's why I made this thread, as coordinating a tie with the purple seemed a real feat.
As you can tell I'm new to the stripes, what are the safest colours to stick with for now?
Also, I take it people aren't so fond of purple/lilac on this forum? I have a few lilac shirts, I tend to stick them with a plum purple tie, or a tie with subtle grey/lilac/purple stripes, and now I'm concerned about the imagine I'm projecting... (and I just recently bought a very pale lilac sartorial shirt with white collar, double cuff, am yet to coordinate it) but don't worry, I have a lot of conventional blue/white too. I wouldn't generally wear the lilac with a suit jacket.
I also bought one striped shirt in a dark navy (quite unconventional I reckon, definitely wouldn't wear with a suit jacket as too dark), and am thinking that this one won't co-ordinate either. I had thought a red/navy checkered tie might actually work though, as I have seen a dark navy striped shirt coordinated in this manner quite nicely before. But stop me in my tracks if I'm becoming yet another victim of stripe inexperience...
