not obscure (then), but Flock of Seagulls was one of the game-changers for MTV, primarily, I think, because of their haircuts. Flash forward to 2013, their touring VAN was stolen from the COMFORT INN they were staying at in DOWNEY. Sometimes it pays to know when to leave the party.

It was Much Music in Canada but way back in the beginning it is sort of amazing what drove the industry, no? Duran Duran, Billy Idol, FoS (wearing womens' tops I think for I Ran), and such a small few other offerings were in nearly constant rotation.
