It won't make the shoe physically wider...but it will make it so it accommodates a wider foot. It's well noted throughout this thread and if you've ever tried it you would see. The lacing as it comes sort of locks (for lack of a better word) the width so there's less give than the classic lacing.

Isn't that what laces are supposed to do? Until you loosen them that is.

I really can't see it making any difference apart from it might be easier to loosen - but that won't effect how they will make the shoe fit.

Define what you mean by "classic" lacing as there are so many different ways to lace a shoe?

I'm not trying to debate you. I come in this thread to try to help people, not to change opinions. To be honest, there's not much value I take from this particular thread, so being an authority in it has little merit for me. I mean classic as in the way an athletic shoe comes laced (I.e. Nike, reebok) and about 99% of other shoes.

so i recently got the chance to try on a pair of chelseas and i noticed that they fit noticeably narrower than my achilles low in the same size (40)

it wasn't uncomfortably so or painful or anything, but then again i didn't have the opportunity to walk in them for an entire day

the length was perfect (if not a smidge too long actually), and i could tell that the heel would've started slipping had i sized up (though maybe i should've tried on a 41, anyway)

anyway, will the chelseas stretch/mold to my feet, or should i just look elsewhere? also, can anybody with the derby shine (the shoe i really wanted to try on, but they didn't have it) comment on its fit relative to both the chelsea and the achilles low?

I find my derby shine to fit similarly narrow to my Achilles, but they were in quicker and stretch easier.

You mean "crossover".

Thanks for the advice guys!

I love the achilles model more than the other styles but it fits really narrow

I tried loosening the laces and it only relieves the middle part of my foot, not much difference in the toe box though(which causes my toes to hurt after walking for so long)

Probably gonna wait and see if they'll stretch more before buying another pair

Otherwise, I'll have to find alternatives

If only they make the achilles a bit wider I would be so happy

I have never tried them personally, but most people say the Achilles retro fit wider/bigger. So that may be worth a shot.

What's up with the Achilles gummy? I've haven't seen them I person, has anyone? Does the leather look more dull? I know the description says they are rubberized leather, would that make them harder or easier to clean? And would you treat them with leather conditioner still?

Thanks to all who posted their sizes, I used this thread heavily before gambling on a pair of CP Achilles low premium perforated. I hadn't tried them or any CPs on and these were final sale over the net so luckily I came out ahead here or these were going on eBay.

To add to the size reference I'm an 8US in Nike Free Flyknit, Janoski Leather, Air Max, etc, 8 in Cole Haan's (numerous), and a 7.5 in Chuck Taylor Highs. I went with CP in size 40 based on the research I did and I think I hit the nail on the head.

I found the Achilles to be slim like many have said but these will no doubt stretch.

The only bad thing is that now I'm itching for a pair of combat boots. 😎

Yes, I too am interested in the gummy version. Anyone handled these or have pics worn?

Yeah I saw the gummy grey and black yesterday, they felt like rubber (obvs) and were very matte. I didn't try them on, but yeah if you want a matte leather they would be good and from the feel of them they would probably be pretty easy to just wipe clean (not that the regular leather is hard to clean). I don't really see the appeal to them.

wooo, just ordered a pair of derby shines and tan chelseas (got lucky and saw a tbs code in the sales thread a minute after it was posted)

ordered them both in a 40 (i also wear a 40 in the achilles low and original vintage high), so here's to hoping that they both work out

I think they're awesome, I love the matte look.  Was going get a pair but I was too late as they all sold out online.

I got a pair of the gummies in grey and not sure if it's just me but they feel tighter than the normal achilles low
