I've been here this long and I still have no idea what a notch lapel is. Meh

Thank you. Is a notch lapel preferred or a peak lapel? I much prefer the notch.

Person #1 looks like a Pittsburgh-area televangelist or something.

Person #2 looks like prom cobbled together from dad's closet and Steve Madden.

Ouch.

Honestly, the way kids dress really depends on the location. My highschool has alot've well dressed kids, though they're very into brand names.

To oversimplify, notch is associated more with conservative business suits, peak with formal dress or fashion. Conventional wisdom in these parts is that at dinner jacket should have peak lapels.

Thanks for the advice, lawyerdad; I'll keep that in mind. I'm singlehandedly keeping tradition alive at my school

Stazy, that looks real real nice.

JB, it isn't hard to **** up a rental tux for prom - I did it, and unfortunately you did too

Your notch lapel jacket looks much better than mine did, if that helps. And you look charming.

I got mine at the Men's Wearhouse. I wish I knew where they trained their salespeople... hngh.

I lurk around over at topicstyle (just to help these kids get a sense that fashion isn't limited to just labels), and I found this horrid picture.

There's just one rule for dressing up. No sneakers. I don't care who bad and unbearable the shoes are your suppose to look nice for proms or wedding or even formal event. If I can find some pictures on another board I lurk on, I'll post em.

JB, just want to mention that you're pretty damn cool for a high school kid. I hope my sister falls in with kids like you when she starts next year.

Tom, who is 13 years older than his sister.
