Here's a photo of the look I'm going for: http://www.tie-a-tie.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/pink-paisley-tie.jpg
So, do you think this outfit is a good idea? If not, can you explain why or offer some suggestions? Thank you.
You're in high school? Pink is a great color, definitely go with it.
Recommendations/Things to keep in mind:
1) Drop the paisley tie. Patterned is fine, but not paisley, and not shiny.
2) Pick up a matching pocket square.
3) Vests are fine, but don't wear one with the idea that you'll take off your jacket and look good. If you wear a vest without a jacket you'll look like a waiter. I mean it. Either drop the vest entirely, or take it off with the jacket. Of course, towards the end of the night when everyone is wasted...it won't matter.
4) Whatever style Julius Marlows you've picked up, make sure they aren't square toe monstrosities.
good luck and have fun
Agree on all fronts (although, I didn't read archi's full post, cause, well, I'm tired)
Charcoal is better option, but as the kid's in school I don't think it's SO much of a better option that he should buy another suit (assuming he already has the black one)
Definitely agree on the pocket square. I didn't mean pink on pink, I just meant one that matches.
It seems really tough (you see this fairly often in WAYWRN) to find a square that works well with a white or lt. blue shirt/dark suit/single color tie, since anything you put in the pocket other than white linen/cream silk is going to be either matchy (some argue a white square/white shirt is too matchy) or it will be bringing in something that's outside of the palette -- which can be done, but it's tricky, and instant SquareFail® when done poorly.
That has no relationship to the OP's question, but it occurred to me the other day.
