Mother's day gift?

hey all...

may 13 is coming up waaay sooner than I want, I don't have anything for her...I'm looking to spend in the $30-70 range. I did expensive chocolates (richart, they're absolutely delicious, not to mention expensive, and she barely acknowledged them, didn't touch them for like a month, then served them to a bunch of strangers, last time I'll be getting her something like that), so that's out of the question, I was thinking of something small, but nice...shipping would have to get here (CT) by mother's day, so probably nothing from far away/physically big...

thanks, calvin

Hey there and welcome to the forum!

Have you considered maybe an aged bottle of wine? You can probably pick one up at any liquor shop. I'm not sure of exactly what kind of wine to look for but there are some connisseurs on the forum that can help better than I can.

Good luck!

it is hard to find a good gift for our finicky moms right? that's the stress and fun of mothers day for me.

well, sometimes i think taking her out to eat at her favorite restaurant is nice and always perfect i think.

just spending an afternoon with her and doing stuff with her is good too. sitting down and letting her know verbally how much you appreciate her and love her.

sappy, but it is something we all need.

good suggestions, but the problem is that I'm 16 (wine's sorta outa the question), and I guess a resteraunt would be nice, but I'll be spending it with my sister and stepfather, so me taking her out to dinner isn't really...appropriate, but this:

sounds good...any other ideas?

i think writing her a nice long letter and sending it snail mail is always nice.

i find that my mom saved all the letters i sent her. she kept them in a drawer and they look all old over the years...it brought a tear to my eye.

I've learned that it never hurts to ask her what she wants. I asked my mother and she said she wanted Cash. So that's what I'm giving her. Her birthday falls a few days before the 13th so I went ahead and bought her a pair of Jack Purcells (i own a pair and has been asking for months for a pair too). PLus she asked for flowers and me an my siblings are taking her to brunch.

I bet you want to suprise her but it may be best to just ask and get her exactly what she wants. You'll save money that way.

hmmm I might ask her, before I do, how does this sound, anyone ever used any of their products? seems like something a mom (she's 50) at her age would like, I don't think it'd come across as a jab at her beauty or anything...any moms out there have thoughts? http://www.eluxury.com/browse/produc...SectionID=6000 cheers and thanks for the help so far, calvin

that sort of stuff (cosmetics and night face creams and etc)

are usually out of men's jurisdiction.

i mean, women really know best in that area, i have no idea what is good or bad, and i mean good quality stuff all the women have different preferences due to their skin pH , texture, color, feeling, etc.

that also is something you have to ask your mom as she knows best.

and to give you a heads up, that cosmetic and face cream/eye cream stuff is VERY EXPENSIVE per ounce for the good stuff!

Flowers from a really good florist. Not FTD or the grocery store, but the best place in town.

A gift certificate to a nice spa. $50-$70 would cover a very deluxe manicure/pedicure or a mini facial.

Something related to one of her favorite hobbies.

+A googol. tell her how much you love her every chance you get. not just Mother's Day.

this year it'll be the same ol' same ol' for me. a nice visit to Forest Lawn. so if i hear anyone complaining about what gift they have to get their mom, i'll smack you down.

my condolences to you Jeff.
i am lucky to still have my mother still around and sometimes i dont think i showed her enough appreciation , or even taking her for granted when i was younger and my head was not screwed on straight.
i love seeing her any chance i have now.

I get my mom something lancome every year. I'm not very creative when it comes to shopping for other people. Shame on me.

bought my mom an ok leather office chair for her craft room. She really wanted one so it worked out ok. Normally I have issues with buying my mom things she will actually use, for gifts. I have failed horribly in the past buying such gifts and I felt like an ass afterwards.

Flowers. They always do the trick.
