Help me pick shoes for my wedding.

After lurking on here for years I decided to join and ask for advice.

With my summer wedding quickly approaching I need confirmation/feedback as to the shoes that I should wear.

To start with I had my shirt and suit made by maxwells clothiers. I picked a light gray suit because it is a summer wedding and it's a look I've liked and have wanted to try out for a while. I will be wearing a white shirt and tie is to be determined (has to have some purple in it to go with the color theme of the wedding - feel free to make suggestions).

For shoes I want something rich in color, I am pretty set on a rich brown. I feel it may be a bit daring, especially with a light suit and this is why I am here asking you for feedback.

I like these even more, but at $475 a pair, it's a bit steep for me.






The suit. I wore some existing brown shoes, hard to tell from the iphone pics. This is to reference the suit colour/fit (any input is welcome).












I saw this a long time ago and it stuck in my head, kind of the look I am going for:

A wedding is a relatively formal affair so I would say go with the more formal shoe, the semi-brogue without the medallion. And you only get married once, so if you can afford it, go for the more expensive shoes which you like more anyway. If there's a time to spend, it would be the big day. Your future wife won't be wearing anything less I'm sure.

I think either shoe works, but I agree with Yowzer that the quarter brogue is probably preferable ( the 475 one).

As for the fit of the suit, try taking a picture with at least one arm at your side in the natural position. Also try pulling your pants up. If they are already pulled up (I suspect they aren't), then get them hemmed so that you have almost no break. I personally prefer getting the hem angled (longer in the bacl) so that there is just a little break in the front, and the pant sits over the back of the shoe slightly.

They are pulled up, but I wasn't wearing a belt.

Are there any particular shoes that you guys can recommend that fit the bill for the look I am after? I am not set on anything, I like options.

Any suggestions for a tie? Tiebar/pocket square?

That said I agree with what others have said about your shoes. You might consider Kent Wang as well, who has a really nice dark brown captoe balmoral at your price point. Maybe it's too dark for your light grey suit; I can't really tell from your pictures. As for a pocket square, white linen is the way to go. And as far as belt versus suspenders, you don't have a choice unless your pants have suspender buttons in them (this is something you might have to ask for when you have a suit made with belt loops).

I would skip a tie bar. Go with white linen for the pocket square.

I suppose suspenders are a better option than a belt, but you will want to get buttons sewn into your pants to accomodate the suspenders. At the same time, you will want to get your belt loops removed. If you are OK wearing suspenders every time you wear this suit, then go for it.

Actually, if this is an evening wedding, I would try to avoid shoes with too much detailing on them. Full or even semi-brogues are more of a daytime thing.

Why no to the tiebar? Any particular reason?

What about a vest? Initially I decided against it since it will be hot, still open that look.

As for a vest, a matching one would probably be fine, but I suppose it is too late for that, since you already own the suit. When going with an odd-colored vest, the recommendation is for a lighter shade, like cream or dove or something like that. This usually works with a darker suit, and provides a mid-level contrast between the dark suit and (usually) white shirt. However, your suit is already light gray, so I am not sure what color I could recommend that would work.
