I think "fashion" is relative to what he calls "Straight (European) Lacing", where he lists the lacing being messy underneath as a disadvantage. I've always just used "Shoe Shop Lacing" - until I started reading this forum. Now I've switched over to Straight (European), and I get confused about where to loosen the laces when trying on a pair in a shop that hasn't been laced up in this way...
