I have 86 Starbucks (Charbucks) within a 5 mile radius: http://www.starbucks.com/retail/loca...ylvania+Ave+NW Pay careful attention to number 4 and number 5... the exact same address (there's a kiosk out in front of this particular Starbucks -- in case you can't wait to get inside the freaking store!)

It is shocking how difficult it is to get a proper espresso in the US. I don't think that I have ever had one as good as what comes out of my Nespresso.

True - but you have Ritual Coffee in the Mission which was decent when I visited, and Blue Bottle.

Agreed. Best when you're out of town, esp. if you've crossed one too many time zones and need a boost. Caffeine content is WAY higher than most other coffees. Starbucks is next best thing to meth for a pick-me-up.

I was sooooo glad to see a Starbucks in Tokyo after sipping on excellent but small cups of coffee at local coffee shops.

Since the nearest place where I can get a cup of Illy is 30 minutes away on a Sunday afternoon, the Starbucks 5 minutes away has to do.

Just curious - is this pre-or post-switchover.

Nespresso is ghastly, unless it's different in the US or you are not using Nestle beans...I've actually been to some of the places Nestle gets its beans from, they are not even Arabica, they are 2nd-grade Brazilian Robusto. There's a Nespresso store down the street from me here in Cairo and I never go there....

a) it's very hard to find a coffee shop here which does anything besides espresso.
b) starbucks here is pretty bad, but I hear it varies per country. I think people only go there because they don't know any better.

Starbucks is, rather miserably, just about the only coffee shop around here and the only one open 24 hours (most close pretty early). I wish I had alternatives, as the coffee and atmosphere are awful, but, well, I don't.

I don't know pre- or post- changeover, but I have been forced to drink Starbucks espressos occasionally over the last ten years or so and they are as bad now as they were then, or they were as bad then as they are now. Nespresso here and in Europe is great as far as taste goes. I am not much of a Coffee snob and don't know from Arabica, but Nespresso is the only coffee that tastes like the espresso that you get in Italy. Maybe you are judging espresso versus a different standard than I am.

In Vancouver we have a tourist street corner that has dualing starbucks -- directly across the street from each other. I never go but I it is said that they have different clientele... people stick to the Starbucks on the side of the street they prefer. Here is a photo of one Starbucks taken from inside the other Starbucks...
