I purchased a pair of Loake Hyde boots, and they arrived today. They're my first pair of really good quality shoes and they really are a spectacular boot when you see them in real life.

I have a conundrum though. I noticed a small defect in the leather on the right side of the toe of the left boot. It looks like somebody has scratched them accidentally, then polished over it.

It's only a small defect and it probably won't be noticeable when I wear them, but spending >2 weeks' rent on a pair of shoes I kind of expected them to be pretty flawless. Should I email the shop I ordered from? Or am I being too pedantic?

Also, there's some very slight discolouration on the outside of the same shoe.

I could maybe deal with the discoloration since that'll probably even out with some polish, but I definitely wouldn't put up with a scratch that like that. Those should've never been shipped out. Personally, I would contact the shop you ordered them from.

The Hyde boots look great in your photos and hopefully I'll get myself a pair this year. I agree with everyone else about the defects though. Return them for another pair. What retailer was it from?

Very nice boots but never accept such a grave defect.

Unless they were seconds. I say return them or see if you can get a partial discount if the flaws don't bother you too much.

Nice boots though!

Those Hyde are very very nice, but that flaw isn't acceptable, they should have been SUBS
Return them as yet stated.
99% Last 026

Thanks, mate! Is the 026 appropriate for a low instep? Or will my feet be swimming in it?

It's a short last, I size up half a size and it's pretty generous in width and not suited for low instep, I have to lace them pretty tight.
TTS probably could work if lenght would be acceptable, give them a try if they're at good price.

I saw in Loake's website about their shoes that are made by grain leather. What does that mean? Is it full-grain or corrected grain? In some other shoes they say calf leather.
I m only talking about the 1880 line.

Received my Loake Churchill shoes yesterday. A few snapshots:

Sorry about the awful photo quality. Sizing down to a 7 for the Swing last worked like a charm, resulting in them fitting like a glove. More than pleased at the moment!
