If this is taken to mean that enough lobbying will allow one to do things that completely gut the purpose of the NPC, I will likely refuse to give yes votes in the future to anyone, no matter how dire their situation.

Take a look at my comment below. And I like your comment on why swatches are in the spirit of NPC. Makes me think that's a very PRO-npc purchase. Regardless, my comment was half-joking. But I will not be buying anything else this NPC round.

Pretty sure it's a no purchase club, not a purchase what I need (or think I need) club.

On the other hand if you need to overhaul your business wardrobe that is totally legitimate, but in that case you probably should have waiting till August NPC

Well let me help you out, sir.

Just heard I'll be getting the job in a few weeks since she took a close look at my resume and liked it. As long as I don't do something terrible, I plan to place my two week notice Monday. I've gone through my spreadsheet and, with a $300/month budget, grouped things in to 'shipments'. This is easier thanks to the swatches. Definitely not an impulse buy on the swatches if you look at it this way. So, maybe at the end of July I'll get two linen shirts and a pair of trousers if it fits, maybe the next, a brown belt and some other shirts, socks, etc.

I will not be buying anything until the end of July, even though I got the job. The swatches will speed up the buying process in an intelligent and well thought out way AFTER the NPC club. Maybe in between them. I will have plenty of time to decide what shirts I will need and when I should order them. I do like the NPC club but there's tiny things that keep making me regret joining. I messed up my shoes while polishing them and they're my only solid pair for interviews (more within MTOs on the way, although I should order some staple brown brogues sooner than I wanted to). I didn't order a bottle of Saphir RenoMat although I consider this an ACTUAL bigger emergency, due to me already requesting the swatches. I'm going to the interview tomorrow with a huge solid blotch on my foot.

Hopefully my review of my needs and wants helps you with your regret!

Here's the shoes I'm trying to work in to my budget. Just not sure how and when. And this club will help!

CREATOR: gd-jpeg v1.0 (using IJG JPEG v62), quality = 90

Usually I would try to go through Carmina, or maybe G&G. But these are exactly what I want, for a better price. And I love the last shape.

Shoes and pants are something I raced in to without any thought. My first pair were double monks. Second and third were suede loafers and burgundy quarter-brogue, in a picture in previous post. I think brown half-brogue should be bumped up on my list. Maybe in August.

Thanks for clearing that up. For a moment there I thought you said you were going to be buying grey wool pants and all the other things you had listed in your "needs" section...

I still maintain I need them. But I've got brown houndstooth, grey windowpane, green and tan. That will rotate alright for my needs for now.

@Jester. The when for that purchase is July 28th

And I had lost faith in humanity for like 48 hours, but some of the comments made in the last couple hours about the nature of the club have restored it icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

On a side note, my end of month purchase is either going to be some pebble grains from Howard Yount:

or a linen blazer

Well I hope some of them were mine.

And I can't say much for the shoes since I don't like anything about them (not that they're bad, they're just not my style - 3 strikes, pebble grain, full brogue and derby). But a linen blazer is a good idea.

Here's something funny. I'm strongly considering selling the EG Westminsters for more on ebay if possible. I love them but if I can sell them for more, and already have a good pair of monks, maybe selling them is a good idea. To help fund some shirts/pants/shoes. They're new as can be so selling them at cost is no issue. More on ebay would be nice.

I've never owned pebble grains before; I'm actually a little nervous about them. I've heard they are good for wet weather (Seoul is pretty disgusting like that), but I wonder how they age and crease. As far as the linen blazer, it's basically halfway through summer. I'd end up getting it at the end of summer. I'd probably wear it during the warmer days of fall and spring (under a coat). Even if I get a coarse linen, I'm worried about trying to wear it with some of my heavier wool trousers. I think if the linen is dark navy and not a spring color, it should be ok. At least, I hope.

It may be that my reservations about both purchases are good evidence that neither should be made. It also may be--and this is equally likely--that I need to explore each of these items further.

Good point. But I personally think that a linen blazer is never a bad purchase, anywhere.

I think I'm going to try to sell the monks to fund a different pair of cheaper shoes I will like more, and a blazer from KW. The green one you pointed out that you like.

So, in order to not break the rules and fail to save 35 euros (which I will do later) I talked to my dad and told him I need to order the shoes in the "grace period" which I don't know when is it... then he asked "In the what?". I said: I tell you when. lol8[1].gif

The shoes that are making noise in my head.

Grace period is July 29th at 12:01am to August 3rd at 11:59pm.

If there is an August NPC. We're less than halfway through the month and we're dropping like flies. If we can hold out, I might be uplifted enough to run this thing another month.

If we do go August, it'll be "August NPC--Fall is Coming" in which we carefully plan our fall purchases.

If anyone saw my Luxire posts, those guys were ordered earlier than NPC. :-)

I'm down for august. Just got off a huge huge purchase

I am hoping to join in August. spent way too much this month. Including 2 pairs of Carminas and a navy double breasted jacket by ovadia and sons. 2 belts and pants... and few other things.
Only thing is I get paid 15th of every month. So I feel it will be a bit easier for me to do or not to do shopping from 15th till 15th . So I am purchase free for a entire income cycle...lol
**I just got paid on the 15th July and I hope I don't spend a cent until the next pay cycle. And good luck to everyone who is on NPC July. July is a month of sale I know its hard .... and you feel the itch ....

Interestingly, the whole deciding to get tailored clothes made for me thing helps out a lot. There generally aren't sales for MTM clothing (well, Brooks Brothers has its MTM event but that happens in September and March) and commissioning a piece takes more thought than buying something OTR (thinking about the 2-3 month wait helps). My biggest temptations tend to be the little things (e.g. a new Hober or 3) since they're easier to write off individually yet manage to add up.
