Fugly things that you like more then anything else!

Thought about something yesterday. I have this fugly orange tie with fishes on, bad quality and would not buy this on my own. But since I got this from my father I prefer it over all my other high quality and beautiful ties.

Would be funny to see pictures in this thread how the fugly things can win over the perfect clothes we have in our wardrobe.

Great topic. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

As you all know if you've seen even a small number of my waywrn pics, I do have a fondness for kitsch. It usually emerges in my tie choices, but also to some extent in the overall outfits I put together. I'd like to pretend that it's ironic, but it's not really... I just find some of these designs to be either entertaining or endearing and in my book, anything that generally brings a smile to my face is a win. Not a cool look, I know, but there it is. Actually, I think that's the overridingly important thing about wearing these "fugly" items: you have to know - and accept - that you're not wearing them to try to look cool, attractive, or stylish; you're wearing them because you enjoy the humour of the item (and possibly, want to share that humour with others for whatever reason is relevant for you) or because it holds some sentimental value to you that overrides other considerations. The tie you mention falls into that category.

I'll try to take some pics later or tomorrow (bit busy right now) but I'm thinking in particular of a few Hermes ties, that Pucci one from a couple of weeks that had Cantab. wondered what on earth possessed me to buy it, and a couple of Versace & Valentino, amongst others.

Exactly, but not only tie in general.

Looking forward to it biggrin.gif

OK, you asked for it... here's just a small selection of the tutti-frutti smorgasbord that is my tie choice in the morning. They're all ugly by SF standards, but I like each for different reasons. biggrin.gif

L>R

Disgusting Drake's - there's nothing like a large scale paisley to bring some fun to a day

Putrid Pucci - its hallucinogenic potency has made many an unprepared presentation much easier to deliver.

Vile Versace - chose this from dad's wardrobe after he retired and let me pick whatever I wanted. I left all the more normal ties.

Offensive Oldskool - my old school tie; I enjoyed my time there, so the tie remains special

Louche Liberty - pretty flowers are always nice, but it's also a good luck tie in that I've worn it to several interviews over the years and got the offer each time.

Horrible Hermes - one among a handful of cartoon character Hermes ties I own. This one has bunnies & seals. You know you love it.

Vomit-inducing Valentino - another one I picked from dad's ties when he retired.

I don't wear them outside my house, but these are great in the winter when it's cold.

I'm laughing already happy.gif

Maybe i'll throw down my fish tie in this thread, i'm not alone now.

Putrid Pucci looks like a real winner for conferences and workshops. What happens, though, if you catch sight of the tie while trying to make up the next thing to say?

So, I am pretty sure I commented on Putrid Pucci when you wore it in in the WAYWT thread. Seeing it here, in it's unobstructed bluish glory, I find myself unable to look away. It's so unremittingly hideous, so irredeemably awful that it actually warps my mind into... liking it. It is the "Battlefield Earth" of neck wear; so bad it is good. A man who could wear such a tie could command great power... and hide a lot ketchup of stains.

I daresay the Drakes almost works. But I stand by my assessment of the good doctor's tie perversion.

Bunnies and seals are friends aren't they? It works.
