I take that back.

Lamp number three has air bubbles in the clear coat. We didn't notice them until we turned the lamp on for the first time. Flos fucking blows.

I guess the takeaway lesson here is that designer furniture is really not necessarily "better made" than regular furniture, huh. Despite the hype about it, that is.

When you buy a made-in-China iPhone for about the same price as this lamp, you get a technologically complex device made of glass and steel that is immaculately finished. So, yeah, I'd like to think Flos could deliver something approaching the same quality that is infinitely simpler to produce and made out of cheaper material and made in Europe. Evidently, they cannot.

I'm sure that has to do with the fact they aren't as sophisticated when it comes to manufacturing. They are making in much smaller batches, in larger varieties of design, and probably have a relatively disorganized approach to quality control. So, I'm not happy, but not entirely surprised.

We will probably return this one and call it quits on Flos. It depends on the attitude of the salesperson. If he is sympathetic and wants to make right, we will exchange. If he makes it sound like we are picky and just wants to "make us happy," we will just do a return for refund.

Seriously, Flos should stopping making their crap in Italy. Chinese manufacture appears to be far superior these days.

At least it has no bubbles in the glass (yes, you made me check).

I think we might just be incredibly unlucky. Nothing is right on the first try--and even the second is a 50/50 proposition.

Why don't you tell the stores that you are buying stuff as gifts for someone else? Then keep it for yourself. That way you should end up with undamaged goods.

Maybe I will try that with the Napoleon candle. Like?

Flos is not wholly representative of Italian manufacturing, sounds like you have bad luck with these things.

Neither is my negative experience with Italian manufacturing exclusive to Flos. Truly, most of this stuff would be made better and cheaper in China.

Hard to photo. They are in the plastic.

That the candles starts inside the hat is cool, but we don't really use candles that way. Also, instead of candles, we use blown glass bulbs that fit in candlesticks, filled with oil (really, clear paraffin). The wick is of fibreglass inside a glass tube.

This is interesting- do you have a picture or a link of something similar?
